mulie hunter Report post Posted January 27, 2007 I'd go with the .223, and agree with the take on the mini-14, fun gun to shoot.
DEERSLAM Report post Posted January 27, 2007 The 22-250 is a great yote gun and will give you alittle farther effective range. The .204 is also a great round and fun to shoot, it's what I shoot, but ammo can be hard to find. The .223 is hard to beat, cheap ammo that's easy to find anywhere and pretty good on the fur. Don't think you can go wrong with any of these.
mkaml4868 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Thanks for all of the responses, I have still been trying to decide which one I am going to buy I want the flattest shooter that I can. I keep hearing that the 220 swift is faster and flatter than the others and still has more energy at the POI. I appreciate the imput.
mkaml4868 Report post Posted January 31, 2007 If you could only use a swift or a 250 which would it be? Thanks for the help.
PRED8R Report post Posted February 1, 2007 22O SWIFT. faster, flatter, etc. The problem is I don't think you will find many people that have even shot one. They are somewhat hard to come by and not produced like the 250 etc. The one I own has a bull barrel, weighted stock, and a custom trigger and it is the funnest gun I own to shoot. Don't have to worry about ranging much, just point and click and the coyote falls over in the scope.
audsley Report post Posted February 1, 2007 I agree that the mini-14 is a fun gun to shoot, but they aren't accurate. I own one. Wouldn't shoot it at a coyote beyond 100 yards. The trigger is terrible, the front sight crude and the overall accuracy is about 5 M.O.A. under the best conditions off a bench. My coyote gun is a sporterized Swedish Mauser. youngbuck Report post Posted February 4, 2007 i shoot a 223 wssm and it does wonders on yotes and jack rabbits. I'm shootin a 55 gr. v-max just under 4000 fps, maybe 100-200 fps faster than a 220 swift. Hardly enough to care about. the 223wssm will push a 40 gr. v-max to 4600 fps, published max load (hornady book). These are pretty flat shooters. If your tryin to save pelts thogh i would use a .223. My calling partner uses a mini-14 w/ some nice glass. It shoots great, its a small rifle, and its semi-auto.
