this was a joke of course but i heard from an outfitter in alaska that he stopped running bells on his pack stock because the grizzlies were patterning his meat hauls off of the sound, they got to where every timethey heard bells clanging they would smell the meat being hauled out so they would follow the sound of bells and cause all kinds of issues

Funny ... never worried much about Black Bears here in AZ (worry more about Cats ... though I don't worry too much either way, which is probably ignorant) ... but in that part of the country the bears are HUGE!!! I think if I camped, hunted and/or hiked up there, I'd be on red alert all the time and would be carrying a CANON!!!!!!!

Mike. Mike, Mike

I hear the only way to get past a bear phobia is to go out into the forest, find the biggest, baddest bear and slay it with.......

Kidso quote "Mike, you need to buy a .454 Casull to put your mind at ease."

I don't think suicide is the answer.

I've shot a few. That's a whole lot of horsepower.

On a more serious note bells is a stupid idea. I had a bear encounter when I was practically unarmed on a hike. I did everything the "experts" tell you to do including making more noise. All it did was call in more predators, no joke!
