208muley Report post Posted July 12, 2014 The outdoorsmans pack is a good one. I will have one for this fall after borrowing a friend of mine a few times. What do you want? No frame, soft frame or pack frame?
capoeirajosh Report post Posted July 12, 2014 Gotta be a bit more specific. : )
deserthntr Report post Posted July 12, 2014 look into kuiu packs. i wasnt into packs with an external frame at all, but after getting the kuiu icon i wont go back to anything else! it is the most comfortable pack i own, and i absolutely love the eberlestock i have. i have only put a little over 10 miles in with the kuiu on my back and havent packed anything out with one but so far it is by far the best pack ive ever had... between having badlands and eberlestock before. there are some kuiu's for sale in the classifieds section at a great price.
Maverick351 Report post Posted July 12, 2014 Well to be honest Im not really sure what I want. I just know I want more room and meat hauling ability in my pack. I have seen a few of the eberlestock and I am not really a fan. I have seen the outdoorsmans and I liked it but not sure if I need something that extreme. Was considering a badlands 4500 or the new clutch as its the new version of the 2800. As for the wife I have no idea what would be good for her. She's not Barbie girl so I need something comfortable that will work for her. Just didn't know what might be a good option
jim Report post Posted July 12, 2014 I dont know how much you are planning to carry out on each load but your 2200 hundred can handle it.
MOWhitail Report post Posted July 13, 2014 Hi. I saw your post, and even though I'm new around here I thought I'd throw my .02 cents in. I backpack hunt about 80% of the time I guess, and always struggled with my standard issue backpacking packs... getting them tweaked just right for mountian hunting. I've had two different Mystery Ranch packs (a 6100 and a NICE Frame Metcalf) and liked them both but they are heavy, and I find the NICE frame a bit uncomfortable (except with a heavy load, then it carries very well). I moved to Kifaru Bikini Frame T1 and it is capable of doing every thing I need for a 10 day hunt no problem, plus carry very heavy loads. The only draw back to it is it is a large bag and you need to compress it down to make it work well for day pack hunts. It can be done, just kind of a pain. It is a light pack though. They are also kind of pricey. This year I am using an EXO mountain pack by EXO Mountain gear, as well. They claim it is 3500 ci, but that is without counting the pockets on side and front, and the pack loads more like a 4500+ ci pack to me. It works great as a day pack or multi day. I used it this spring while bear hunting and honestly can say I will easily be able to get 5-7 days full gear and food in it, and am probably going to use it elk hunting Idaho this year. It is very light and carries well. Also, it is not too bad price wise (for premium type packs). It is a titanium frame. You should at least look at that pack and see what you think. I like mine. They have some good youtube videos showing the features of the pack.
cmbbulldog Report post Posted July 13, 2014 Unless your doing long back-country hunts, what is wrong with the 2200? Also, if your not using that, would be good for the wife. I do have the full curl and its a good backpacking pack.
capoeirajosh Report post Posted July 13, 2014 Check out the Kuiu Icon. I have never used them, but hear GREAT things about them. Personally, I have an eberlestock just one and so far love it. I will probably eventually switch over to a Kuiu though.
Shawn Report post Posted July 13, 2014 Horn Hunter packs are nice. I have the main beam XL and full curl. Made in the USA, lifetime guarantee and tough as heck.

vanhornsky Report post Posted July 14, 2014 I would recommend going down and trying them on. Especially your wife. Women have a different size frame than we do. It took us a while but my wife settled on the badlands superday. The only problem was she can not buckle the hip strap she is to small. We bought this before they came out with packs for women though. The other option is to try them out if your friends will let you\have them. I went with the Eberlestock Blue Widow for me. It is a little heaver pack but works and hauls weight very well. I usually have about 35-40 lbs fully loaded the pack is around 8 lbs. I have put about 110 lbs in it packing elk out. Worked great! Still heavy load though, stabilized it very well.
