Meeting the In-Laws.....

Antmo23, I think you'd be surprised how many agree with you. I lean more to your side. As said before, Religion, or lack of is a very hot button issue and relationships are wrecked or made very uncomfortable because of it. That's too bad.

I think what I think, and you think what you think. It's the same with my wife and children, and I let them have their beliefs or disbeliefs its their choice. My childeren have been guided to creationism. As a child so was I. I will let them decide want they want to believe.

For me . I don't know I live my life and don't know how the inevitable will come. I just know im not a terrible human being. I don't think paying a tax free organization will help.

Last night i went to hear a MD professor talk about intelligent design in the birth process. it was absolutely fascinating. The discussion was about how the human heart could not evolve. Things like laminar (sp) blood flow (different oxygenated blood and less oxygenated blood flowing different directions to different places at the same time in the same vein) the development of vessels to the lungs during the birth process, development of heart valves etc. couldn't evolve. They have to be there in place fully functioning or life ends instantaneously.

Last month i went to hear a geologist talk about the 1 year development of the grand canyon. It was fascinating.

So, i'm a believer. I choose the Baptist theology, which pretty much says you can't force someone to believe. Kids included.

So, man, i wish you guys would believe. For me, it's so clear. For others, i guess not.

I guess i became a believer because of this one fact, I refuse to believe that you and I are accidents.

And if we are here on purpose, i had to find out what that purpose was.

But it's true, if you try to force someone to believe, they really don't believe.

It's voluntary or it's fake.

The great thing about science is, it's true whether you believe in it or not.

lol, the other funny thing about science is that it always changes. just when they tell you know have it down, somebody else comes up with a new theory and debunks the old one.

i just can't come to grips that there is no God, and what's more, I know for sure there is a devil. There is so much pure and unadulterated evil in the world it's crazy.

You don't have to look far to see the devil.

And if there is a devil, there better be a God out there somewhere.

That's because science never stops. New technologies come out that allow for different research, which changes what we thought we knew. The quest for knowledge never stops.

Look at what we use for hunting, I'm sure it's more than a little bit different than what our grandfathers and fathers used. Now think about what our great-great grandfathers used. What we think of as commonplace would have been like an alien artifact 75 years ago. Range finding binos? A range finding scope that adjusts the crosshairs for the distance automatically? Carbon composite bows that launch arrows at +300 fps? Carbon fiber park frames that can handle more than I can carry yet weight a fraction of what my 6 yo packframe weights? All science. And the scientists are not finished yet. In 75 years, all of our stuff will be antiquated. Just imagine what else science will give us in the next few years.

Bojangles - Science is ever changing because it is open to new ideas. As more evidence is gathered through time our understanding must change to answer the questions still unknown. I can't say it any better than everyone's favorite scientist Bill Nye so I won't even try. The link below is from a recent debate that fits in perfectly here. It is rather long so I don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing, but I hope you do.

BTW - The biggest take away from this debate for me is the closing statements where when both sides are asked "What if anything would change your mind?". Bill Nye being on the side of science says "Evidence", Ken Ham representing creationists says "nothing". I think that says it all right there.

Cool. i'll probably watch that one day. Talked to many people who have, and they seemed to enjoy it. I go to AZOSA meeting that discess such topics, in further detail and more specifics.

Thanks!

Monday i went to hear an MD professor speak, before that it was a state geologist, before that it was a professional biologist for the zoo's in phoenix; they all discussed problematic things w/ evolution. Nye/ and Ham are TV celebrity scientist, who are interesting; but AZOSA brings real scientist who are currently working in the forefront of science and technology to speak on such issues. You'd be surprised how many real scientists there are who don't believe in evolution.

I would encourage you to go to an AZOSA meetings, even if you don't agree, they are so fascinating.

But i don't hang my hat on science, it always changes. I'm looking for something that is more solid.

What "they" dont talk about is all the byproducts of science, to me, it seems like science is busy fixing the problems it has caused. Last week on Yahoo news there was an article that linked childhood shots directly with autism, ADHD, and other mental illnesses. So polio is down, but autism is up.

Hooray, things like malaria and yellow fever are rare, but cancer and dementia are prolific and common.

We have cell phones, but air polution is bad.

Are rivers and streams and woods are in danger, but i have gps.

Alzheimers. Heart disease. It goes on.

Sceince fixes one and creates 5 more problems.

I'm not knocking science, I'm just not worshipping it.

There comes a day when science will fail you. But i have found that Jesus never fail.

So still, you know, I can't force anyone to believe. I wouldn't even try.

But like i said, i'm a Baptist. Baptists founded the colony of Rhode Island in the New World, for the express purpose of having a colony where you didn't have to participate in religious practices to live there, unlike the more popular Massachusettes and Virginia. And i still hold to that.

The choice to believe or not to believe is entirely up to you.

Bo - Bill Nye is very much a "real scientist" he is a professor at Cornell University and the director of the Planetary Society that helps fund space research through government programs. Ken Ham on the other hand.....well not so much. Also, creationist scientists do exist, but are the extremely small minority in the scientific field. I would love to attend one of the AZOSA meetings, because I am open to all ideas, but must say that a creationists organization is hardly objective.

I think you opened up a whole new can of worms for me with the vaccine debacle, but that is an issue for another post that I would love to go in detail on or better yet over a beer ha ha. I would never try to change someones mind, but I will always chime in with facts to support my position.

This sure is an interesting subject. I've worked in the high tech industries all my life including 10 years at Sandia National Labs. Most of the Scientists I worked with were firm believers in God. We can always poke holes in the Bible when it comes to creation. they say it took 6 days for God to create everything. How long is a day for God? May not be the same as our day.

Science and medicine are always making great strides in discovering new things. I had an ACL graph 20 something years ago. I am so glad that doctors figured out that after a year in your body tendon cell structure will turn to ligament cell structure. INCREDIBLE! How does that happen? I believe that God made our bodies in such an incredible way that it heals itself. God also had a hand in creating the doctors and scientists that made these discoveries.

Every time I see the sun rise I thank God for the wonderful world he created and the blessings he has bestowed on me. I am not telling you that I am right and you are wrong. I just believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They've been good to me and mine.

Some food for thought. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/10/1018_041018_science_religion.html

As for the initial topic. I think that to make a relationship work both people have to be like minded in their thoughts on religion (or lack thereof). My first marriage didn't work out to well. Mostly because we were too young but, her lack of faith and my great faith did NOT help make the marriage work. Fortunately that experience took me to the place where I met the Love of my life and made me a better husband. 28 years and going strong.God does have a plan!
