Trout Tails

Recommended Posts

Guest akaspecials

I went fishing this weekend and caught 20-30 trout at woods canyon on Saturday. All of their tails were intact and looked normal. On Sunday we moved to Knoll lake and caught 15 or so trout and all of their tails looked they had been chewed up and destroyed. Does anyone know why this would be?

I would have thought Woods Canyon would have been stalked more and had more hatchery fish than Knoll. That's why I was confused. The fish at Woods Canyon were larger though. Holdovers maybe?

I haven't a clue. Water must be low and crawfish eating their tails. lol

I've seen the chewed tails on trout before, I was told that it's caused by to many fish and not enough food so they are trying to eat each other... Dont know if it's true, but it seems to make sense as trout are preds...
