IA Born Report post Posted June 22, 2014 I'll throw my hat in for a 7mm-08. My 10 year old daughter has been shooting one since she turned 9 and loves it. Savage Axis youth with a Vais muzzle brake. That thing shoots lights out!
apache12 Report post Posted June 28, 2014 Tikka t3 7mm-08. I have one my 13 (now 15) has hunted with and my 10 year shoots it. Great round. Recoil just a bit more than 243. If cow elk is a possibility don't go 243. Tikka is nice and light for her to carry to. I took it on a pig hunt in txt and simply love the rifle and caliber
rossislider Report post Posted June 28, 2014 I'll second the Tikka t3 7-08. Light enough for my 10 year old to carry but big enough for elk. I put a brake on ours to lighten the recoil a bit for my wife and son.

5guyshunting Report post Posted July 10, 2014 My choice for my kids was a remington 700 .270 130 grain works well for deer or elk and factory core lokts are still reasonably priced. I did have the synthetic stock shortened and a little trigger work.
THOR Report post Posted July 10, 2014 I would go with a 270 and if you put a break on it...it will kick less then a 243. win model 70 or rem 700. just my opinion
bigrig Report post Posted July 29, 2014 A friend of mine clued me into a .270 loaded with 110gr Barnes Tipped Triple Shox, Little kick and she can work up to heavier loads without having to keep buying rifles. My 8 year old will shoot these. Just my 2 cents
