capoeirajosh Report post Posted June 13, 2014 Let's talk about some of the higher end clothing available these days. I have been looking into under armour and first lite. Anyone use this stuff?? Your thoughts? I am looking for some good quality clothing that I can take with me on backpack hunts, so they will have to pack well. Also, not looking to look like I gained 200 pounds when dressed for the cold. For this upcoming bear/deer season, I have been looking at under armour's heatgear. Not totally familiar with how all of these new layering systems work, but am definitely interested in learning about them. Seems like they would work out quite well for what I want. So let's hear it. Heat Report post Posted June 13, 2014 I would add KUIU to your list. Cabela's Microtex is the best fabric I have found for hunting yet! I've got more stuff than I almost know what to do with but having versatility and flexibility is nice. My go to stuff as mentioned is the Microtex for most hunts. I start with a baselayer of Under Armor Heat Gear if hot or Cabela's Thermastat if cold. Merino wool is a popular baselayer option these days. On top of that I usually wear a lightweight fleece or shirt (Microtex Lite or regular). Pants same Microtex Lite or regular depending on temp. During winter I have various layers of fleeces and insulating layers mostly if not all bought at Cabela's in Outfitter Camo. I also have some stuff I wear when its hot as heck and not expecting any moisture made of cotton. If colder temps are expected and/or there is any hint of a possibility of rain I stick with synthetics. Layering and versatility is key. SwarovskiCoues Report post Posted June 13, 2014 depending on the heat gear you buy from under armour you can get pretty thick. i have used sitka and kuiu both now and i would say get a somewhat thick pant that you could wear in like october and be fine with and then if you really need it wear a baselayer under it. as of jackets i used the 90% jacket last year, and underneath i wore a long sleeve shirt and a under armour hoody and i was warm as can be. this year im going with kuiu. im gonna do the guide jacket with a down vest underneath and a long sleeve merino . the down vest can pack down to practically nothing !! Guest oneshot Report post Posted June 13, 2014 Under-Armour is nice gear, but I mostly use it when hunting the Adirondacks in NY, where it's deer/bear drives and walking 10-15miles a day is normal. Walking and sweating for a few hours, then posting-up for a few hours gets COLD and having gear to stay warm is always a problem, untill I found UA... Cons with UA and simular gear: it's so tight to the skin, that your body hair knots-up and it pulls your body hair(and I'm not that hairy)... My GF wears different models of UA tops to stay warm at her work, DD Casino dealing black-jack, and she loves the stuff... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Viper Report post Posted June 13, 2014 Another option that is less spendy...same technology as the high price stuff, is Core 4 Element and Russell Outdoors APX G2. You can find good deals on the web and camofire. The light-weight merino wool base layers work well in cold to mild temps and really does help control BO. Antmo23 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 I wear UA cold gear compression under my Kuiu 185 zip T and guide jacket and I love that combo. Ill throw on a shitka vest under my jacket if it's really cold. I never ware long underware, the Kuiu attack pants are all I need for pants.
