Sneaker Report post Posted June 11, 2014 I've always heard that mouth diaphragm calls are the best, and that is always what I have used, but I don't think me or my family are very good at them. Despite trying out several different calls and companies, I don't have the consistency and control I would like. Plus, when out on a hunt, having the diaphragm in your mouth too long seems to cause the latex to become loosened and the sound to change. I've always heard the "hoochie mama" calls are over used by hunters, and not realistic enough, so I've never given them a shot. I have recently seen a couple AZ videos with some well known guides using the hard plastic, hand held, open-reed type calls that they hang around their necks for their cow calls. What are your thoughts and experience with those types of cow calls?

bowfishAZ Report post Posted June 11, 2014 Silence is a beautiful thing!! I carry a small primos reed in my mouth to stop the bull if necessary when its time for the shot. My favorite is the guys squawking their hoochie mamas and the elk run the other way!

Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted June 17, 2014 The diaphragm mouth call is the best tool for me (in addition to a personal locator bull call that is man made). Just one (cow) quack from the mouth call with a single bull locator call is all that is necessary to spell success. The older I get the less I call.......and better results for that matter!
