Recent Jaguar Pics and other critters down south

Fellow CWT.com hunters. Check out these recent trail cam photos a a jaguar, lions and bear. Lions Tigers and Bears, oh my.

Maybe a silly question, but why do you feel you need to report to g+f? They are nice pics. Just asking.

The jaguar looks tiny compared to both the lion and bear. Is it a baby? or is it in a crouched position? Good job getting pics.

sorry to rain on your parade, but i am pretty sure that what you think is a jaguar is a bobcat....my reasoning.....

 

1. The tail of that animal is far too short in order to be a jaguar, a jaguars tail is at least as long as a mountain lions.....

 

2. the picture of the "jaquar" is taken in the same spot as the bear and lions, correct???? look at the size comparison between the "jaguar" and the lion. a jaguar normally weighs from 124-211 lbs....and mountain lions average 137 lbs. from the looks of that "jaguar" it is about 20 lbs (max) and guess what the average bobcat weight is......15 lbs.

 

3. as you cam see below the difference of tail length between a jag and a bobcat. you have a bobcat sir.... and it is a mighty fine bobcat, it does have spots that look like they could be on a jag....but is still a bobcat.....

These are from my buddies game cam and they are bad butt. As for reporting to the G&F, I know they get some bad press however, the only folks studying them is the G&F.

On the money! You beat me to the punch, great breakdown, and undeniably a bobcat.

Not a Jaguar. Most likely a colorful bobcat. As 520Hunt mentioned above it does not have a long tail like a Jaguar or Ocelot would. It appears to have a small Bobbed tail as most bobcats have. Also a close look at the spots and you will see that they are solid spots. jaguars like in the picture Patrick posted above have spots that are circled in black and a darker shade of orange/yellow in the middle. Lastley the size is the biggest giveaway. The size is more consistent with a bobcat. The Jaguar that is roaming southern AZ right now is very similar in size to a large tom mtn lion.

 

Secondly game and fish is the last people I would tell about it. Remember what happened to the last jaguar they found... the! University of Arizona is the one currently running the Jaguar Project for the USFWS.

Maybe it should be reported now that we think its a bobcat? Goose chase for g+f? Oh no that could be false reporting better let it rest.

Inaccurate information. The Arizona Game and Fish department is not studying the Jaguar, the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Conjunction with the University of Arizona, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) are conducting the Jaguar/Ocelot Survey/Study. For those who are unaware, there is a Jaguar in southern Arizona, he is alive and doing very well. Oneshot, reporting to the G&F is a bad idea...? Even if this was a real Jaguar photo, the AZGFD, the USFWS and EVERYONE else knows he's alive and has been wondering about. The University of Arizona is working under contract with the USFWS and is using over 200 trail cameras to monitor Jaguar/Ocelot activity. THEY KNOW HIS EVERY MOVE. Nothing new. The USFWS has actually set up a public Flickr account that has over 65 pictures of the Jaguar and Ocelot. So all those that are worried about the G&F finding out, good luck, cause they already know. The Flickr link is below. If anyone wants anymore facts about the Jaguar and the Study look at the links below.

I hope they have insurance on the 200 cameras , I have trouble keeping two.
