Edge Report post Posted June 7, 2014 NBC is televising it. Even if you aren't into the sport, this is an incredible story. Good to see a contender owned and bred by common everyday blue-collar folks like us, winning in the sport of kings. CA Chrome is owned by two couples who;s only other horse is the colts dam and two other full siblings from different crops. They don't take themselves too seriously though, just look at their silks. What a ride it has been. Good luck to all the horses, hope they have a fast, safe mile and a half.
DesertBull Report post Posted June 7, 2014 I used to follow horse racing real closely. I be to a lot of the major tracks....Santa Anita, Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Oaklawn Park... Etc. been to slot of the old small tracks too... Sumlamd Park, Ruidoso Downs, Fairmont Park, Turf Paradose. It is a good story. This horse has won by daylight in both previous races. It will be tough to get this one at 1.5 miles al 11 horse field. There is a horse called Wicked Strong that looks like he might be more suited to an extra 1/4 mile. Ride on Curlain looks like he might be able to get the extra distance. He had bad racing luck in the derby and was coming at Chrome in the Preakness, which was a shorter race. It should be exciting. Look for Chrome to be close to the lead early with Wicked a little farther back and Curlain coming from the back. Remember this is Belmont, when the horses hit the top of the stretch they still have a long way to go.
Edge Report post Posted June 7, 2014 That's why they call the Belmont the Test of Champions. A lot of the good old tracks are gone now, horse racing is in a slump. Takes a shot at a Triple Crown to resurge the sport if even for a short time.
.270 Report post Posted June 7, 2014 Most folks don't even realize that 3 cowpunchers from the gila valley won the derby and the Preakness in the 50's and 60's. Rex and Heber ellsworth and mesh tenney. Swaps won the derby and candy spots won the Preakness. They run into hard times a few years later, but they had some good horses for awhile. Hebers wife, Lavinda, was my 3rd grade teacher. Lark.
Edge Report post Posted June 7, 2014 I was aware of that. I believe CA Chromes trainer was a groom for Swaps. Here's some derby trivia...What was Ferdinand's fate?

Edge Report post Posted June 7, 2014 Yeah, not his best moment, but he does make a good point. He wants the field of horses from the Kentucky Derby run in all three races rather than slip in a rested sleeper.
DesertBull Report post Posted June 7, 2014 It's been this way for 140 years and he wants to change the rules? Sorry you just crapped the bed. You had a great run with a horse that outran his pedigree by a million miles. Be grateful. His horse was 5th, not beaten a nose by a fresh horse.
