Rifle scope debate anyone?

Recommended Posts

I know these questions generate mixed responses but they are fun and i know there are some folks on this site with good knowledge of product

So..

Is there a clear winner or simply all to close to compare between the following scopes to be used in a hunting application. Shots at 500yards and below on a non magnum rifle

I have found all of these three new or demo (thx cameralandny and swfa)

At or around $400 to $450

What's the pros and cons or best option out of

Vortex Viper hs 4x16x44 30 mm tube

Minox za5 hd 3x15x42 sf one inch tube

Nikon monarch 3 sf 4.5x16x42 one inch tube

Thanks for opinions if you own a couple of these that be great to hear what you think

I own the Nikon and the Vortex scope you mention. I prefer the glass in the Vortex Viper.

I as well own both and will stick to my vortex. Better glass and warranty.

You cannot beat the Vortex Warranty, all other things being even remotely close.

I like leupold myself, but before you buy check out okefenoke outdoors I think they carry nikon, zeiss, leupold and maybe vortex.

They are legit big savings and no tax.

I understand this level Minox uses Schott glass same company as zeiss

No love for Minox? I think the safe bet is Vortex but I would really like to see the minox side by side in low light

No love for Minox scopes at all. Doing reviews I rarely found a good review on their scopes. No reason to go minox when Vortex is better and always has good reviews. I always like Nikon scopes as well as long as you arent needing to adjust turretts. Then nikon becomes sub par IMO

Clear winner? If only it was that easy. The key is to do what you are doing, ask around, reasearch, look down some tubes and then buy the one you think will work the best for your needs. While I do some freelance work for Nikon I won't tell you they are the best for your needs. I will encourage you to take a look at their BDC reticle ( yes I know, some of you don't like it) and also Spot On, which allows you to enter your shooting data into the program and get the corresponding distances for each BDC circle. I can tell you it works pretty darn good too. Good enough to hit 4 inch jars of tannerite at 600 yards with stock rifles. I have also harvested deer between 500-600 yards using .308 and .300 Win. topped with BDC scopes. Have an open mind and check out Nikon Spot On Ballistic Program. I've enlightened a lot of guys at the range who weren't initially BDC fans but couldn't argue with the success they had after giving it a try.

Well I went with the Vortex Viper hs. I have to admit that in the store the monarch 3 seemed every bit as bright if not more. I just couldn't get comfy with BDC circles. I didn't do minox because I can't get my hands on one first but I think from research the new series is dang good glass they just may be surrounded by poor construction

In the end the vortex warranty and company just provided lots of comfort. Not sure I'm thrilled with 30 mm tube but oh well

How do you know what height rings on a standard barrel rifle? Low I would hope

Great post advice. Really appreciate this website
