Remington Cor Lokt..GOOD or BAD??

I have used this round for years and have never had the same results twice. 300 Win mag 180 grain, 30-06 165 grain, 270 Win and 270 WSM 130 & 150 grain. I have had full penetration in and out both sides, never exiting and turning everything inside to jelly, exploding (like a small grenade went off) it seems like on impact, Hitting bone and deflecting to other areas inside. What I read about this bullet makes it sound like it is one of the best rounds you can use. Granted ALL my animals have been found close or dropped in their track. I just don't understand why this round never acts the same as others I have used. IE.. Silver tip, Nosler partition, Speers and Berger. It is a cheap factor load when it comes to buying ammo now but I sure have lost a lot of meat thru-out the years because of this round.

Anyone else find this true? Just interested if I am the only one.

I know YOU do but there is an issue with this round..And a factory load is when you are out of work and can't buy BETTER loads.

It's killed things pretty good from my familes experience with 165gr 30-06. Dead is Dead. Shoot it where you're supposed to shoot it and you don't loose meat. Same goes for Winchester Power Point. If I wasn't so set on long range accuracy I would still be shooting this load for a lot cheaper than what I spend now.

I have shot them where I was supposed to. Right behind the shoulder and lost the heart, liver, opposite shoulder, because they grenade when it hits. I have only found 2 rounds in all the animals I have taken. 6 deer, 2 elk, 4 pigs. I shoot well and don't take bad shots. This is a devastating bullet. I am just not sure why they don't perform the same or even close to the same in the same rifle. I agree with the price too. I shoot different rounds now but still have some cor lokts left.

I've never had an issue with them. I've recovered a couple bullets from elk. They were just under the skin on the opposite side. Different reaction likely has to do with what they hit. If it goes between the ribs or hits them, If it hits the shoulder or leg etc. I imagine they will even react differently to what they hit on the inside lungs vs, liver or if they hit the diaphragm or heart. I use them exclusively I everything but my long range gun and that is only because I shoot a custom load in 30-378.

An elk hit at 300 yards behind the shoulder and a Coues hit at 150 yards behind the shoulder will probably have different results.

well now..........

 

i have shot core-lokts into live animals since 1970. they hold together very well at 75% plus weight retention in 180gr .308 and 130 &150gr .277. i like partitions because of incredible accuracy. but the 130gr .277 core-lokt is a watershed bullet in my little old humble opinion. read some JOC.

through-and-through penetration with the core-lokt has been observed for over 40 years by this meat eater.

I have yet to shoot any animal with a core lokt and have to shoot it again.that's all the evidence I need to love em

My 30-06 loves core lokts. Brought down plenty of animals with em. I can't say they're a consistent long range factory load but what is at that price?

They shoot well out of my Rem 700 .270 130gr....out to 400 yards. I have shot several deer with core lokts (different calibers)...all one shot kills. My coues last year dropped in his bed at 230 yards. My son shot two cow elk with them, in .30-06 and dropped them where they stood. They are cost effective for what you get. Shooting more is not so painful. However, I have noticed some inconsistencies in POI from one box to another. Before a hunt, I make sure to shoot a couple rounds from new boxes to verify POI. I often think of switching to higher quality ammo with higher BC bullet...but then I realize the cost.

Well. Thanks for all the input. I will say again like before. I have never lost an animal with this round. It is and will always be a low cost devastating bullet. I do however agree with you all about the long range aspects of this bullet. The farthest shot I have made was around 350 yrds and dropped the deer. I will use them again just because of the price. I guess dead is dead like Norteno said. I will just cut out the bloodshot and grill whats left. Have a great hunt everyone.
