Is this bear huge? Not in an open unit?

Recommended Posts

I pulled some of my elk scouting cams, and was very very surprised to see what looks like a very large brown phase bear. The cow pic is for reference. And a big lion a mile away, and what I assume would be the same bear on a different camera. This is in 16a that doesn't have a bear season. I assume this means he is off limits?

That is a tough call. I think the bears are different. First bear looks larger with a lower hanging belly, but again the ground is sloped. Looks to be a solid 300 plus or minus 50 pound bear. The second picture is closer up and does not suggest a mass similar to the bear in the first picture. Second bear is 100 pounds less in my opinion. I would tag either one for their amazing colors if they were in an open unit.

Definitely looks like 2 diff. Bears both are shooters for me, closed :(

I'm curious on the "closed" units. I can only assume they only have hunts in the units that G&F determines have a healthy sustainable bear population? Do they add or take away units ever or often?

Really helps to see their head, but based on the cow vs bear pic looks like a good one. Definitely has nice fur!

Thought I replied on this earlier, but apparently not. I agree that it looks like 2 different bears. That first one looks absolutely huge. And with that color phase - wow.
