mbiewer Report post Posted May 23, 2014 So after 4 months of dating a single mom, our schedules have lined up to take her kids camping. Her son has gotten to go before with their dad, but her daughter hasn't gone before. My own tradition is a trip in june to the area below young, via globe and the 188. This is going to be the third year for going up. Much to the dismay of Emily, and other people going, i picked a spot that wasn't close to water. (normal trips involve kayaking and fishing). I know on the bottom of the 288, we cross over the headwaters of roosevelt lake. Has anyone ever fished here before? are there good spots? I don't really have the desire to drive around the horn up to the actual access for the lake. The thought did cross my mind that we could stop in the day use area there and ry to fish for a little while on the way through to share hat with the kids. My nephew who is six lives to fish, so not only would i get to share the experience with the two new additional kids, but it would really make his day to try a new spt as well. Thanks everyone, it will be a great trip regardless. Propane fire ring and all, a pretend fire will still cook marshmaollws lol
stanley Report post Posted May 23, 2014 If you're into catfishing, the Salt River stretch below the diversion dam can be awesome! Lots of channel cats and plenty of nice flatheads in there too! Good luck! S.
biglakejake Report post Posted May 24, 2014 turn west off the 288 onto A-Cross road and there are several two tracks and 4x4 trails that will take you down to lakeside camping spots. night bass and catfishing and dawn sunfish, crappie and bass can be excellent from shore. a can of corn, a 6 year old and a 10 lb carp caught just after dark can make a fisherman for life......... good luck, lee ps you will have share the shoreline with the rattlesnakes, scorpions and skunks........this is still arizona...
biglakejake Report post Posted May 24, 2014 the day use area at the diversion dam/rockhouse store would only be viable for catching fish after dark. is the rockhouse store still standing? lee
Coach Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Yeah, last spring it was. Great advice on the access off A-cross. A couple weekends or so I'm planning on really fishing the lower Salt for the first time. Weekend or two after, gonna revisit the upper salt - God I love that place. Too much work, too little fishing - lol. Gotta fix that.
bowhuntaz1 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Watch out for the rattle snakes
Coach Report post Posted May 24, 2014 And scorpions - fishing at night with any artificial light will bring them in like the Salmon of Capistrano (sorry, couldn't resist a DnD quote).
