rcdinaz Report post Posted May 23, 2014 Okay so here is my first try and putting together a deck to bowfish from. It works great and the lights are surprisingly bright. There are 4 more smaller floods I can point and swivel that are not on it. I can mount them on the boat rail directly. It has two floors so I can hide the wire and have the foot control flat (advice from this forum). Everything goes off or on in about 20-30 minutes and can store flat, well except the conduit. My plan was to do it in wood and then when I can afford it have one made in aluminum, probably 3"-4" higher than this one. I will also add LED flood lights to the front and move the others to the side. Anyway, I guess I am addicted to this it is a blast!

buffhunter Report post Posted May 23, 2014 That will work!!!!!! Just be careful putting your deck too far forward, you get a couple guys up there and then start hitting waves that front end can scoop that water in real quick!!!! Also you could build a steel deck that size or a bit bigger for under $100.00 and would only weigh 15-20#s more then aluminum. Plus it would be way cheaper.... good luck and yes welcome to the addiction! !!!!!!!!
rcdinaz Report post Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks! I will check out the steel prices. It is on,y me on that deck, 2 would get really crowded unless it is one of my kids. I think that thing my be over 100lbs plus the lights. I need more lights....
buffhunter Report post Posted May 23, 2014 I just built a new deck on my family boat that is 36in high to the platform plus a knee rail all the way around and a back leaning rail with an expanded metal floor and it came out to exactly 88#s and it was $105 in steel my buddy and I wielded it up. Oh ya and it is 30in deep and 72in wide.... if I went aluminum I would of been over 60#s and I cannot wield aluminum. If you want to chat about decks shoot me a PM I have been a part of building about 10 decks in the last 5 or 6 years.....

Coach Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Pretty impressive "first cut". Given your knack, I'm guessing we'll see this get continually lighter and stronger. Nice job.
rcdinaz Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks coach! Like most of you on this forum I tend to get obsessed with new challenges! This is the reason I don't fly fish even with buddy's badgering me all the time. I keep telling them "you guys just want me to ge hooked because you know I will be tying flys and trying to build rods the first year into it". Of course my wife will probably make me sleep in the shed at that time. She let me takeover the garden room and a few closests for reloading and gear but I already got the yard sale or else mandate for this summer. By next weekend I may be able to get some stuff up on here for cheap due to the ultimatum.
