Adicted Report post Posted May 20, 2014 Have you ever experienced sometimes when you pull up a waypoint and the direction arrow will not point in the right direction. I always enter my waypoints when I have full signal. Even when I start walking sometimes with full signal it will not point in the right direction. I have calibrated several times and sometimes its just bad. Any reccommendations???
Elkaddict Report post Posted May 20, 2014 Have no idea about the rino, but I do know Garmin. If you are talking about the arrow on the map you have to start walking and it will show the direction you are going. If you take a couple of steps and stop it's not going to point right, just walk. How long have you had this gps?
Adicted Report post Posted May 20, 2014 i am fully aware of walking a bit and it points in the right direction...it will still mess up..
Elkaddict Report post Posted May 20, 2014 Can't quite figure out what you mean by "mess up"
Adicted Report post Posted May 20, 2014 the arrow will point me in the wrong direction from where the way point is....lets say I can see my truck straight ahead 1/2 mile and its marked. I then put in that waypoint and hit "go to". I start walking and and it tells me how far it is but the arrow will point me to the right, or left, or backwards, where ever it feels like sending me. Elkaddict Report post Posted May 20, 2014 I never use the go to feature, if I am going to the waypoint I first make sure I can see it on the screen at whatever scale I need to use. Then if my gps is set for north up I start walking and make the arrow ( actually the little triangle that is my location) point towards the waypoint . Or if you have track up you put your waypoint at the top of the screen and try to keep it there, depending on topography etc. I think your problem might be with your setting of north up or track up. If the gps has a topo map in it I prefer north up. Before I had maps I used track up. I've just about confused myself, how about you?
GJMauro12 Report post Posted May 20, 2014 I have been extremely frustrated with mine several times with the same issue. I believe it is user error on my part and I've been wanting to go take the class at sportsmans on Phoenix and just haven't got around to it. I have gone way out of my way several times following that stupid arrow when I knew the direction didn't seem right but thought the computer must be smarter than me. I don't pay any attention to the arrow now and just make sure I am getting closer according to "distance to destination" I know there's also a lot of other features this unit provides that I haven't learned to use yet such as marking points from a distance which would be useful. One other thing I have trouble with is when I choose to go to a way point and tell it to follow the road it usually doesn't work unless I'm on a high way. Not a huge deal tho. Sorry for the long post but I thought I would throw it out there. It probably sounds like I hate this particular GPS but it's actually the best I've used so far. AZLance Report post Posted May 20, 2014 You need to Calibrate the compass. Every time you change the battery or travel a long distance from where you used it last, you will need to calibrate the compass. Pretty simple, select menu from your compass page and select "calibrate". Then you usually turn slowly in a circle 2 times and it is calibrated. It is different on different modules, but look it up in your manual or Google how to do it for your model.

HuntHarder Report post Posted May 20, 2014 What Lance Said! Every time I go out, I calibrate my compass. It is very easy to do, and will avoid any problems you are having.
Elkaddict Report post Posted May 22, 2014 Adicted, did you try what az lance said? If so how did it work. I have no idea why the compass feature would mess up the map and arrows but my gps doesn't have a compass so I would be interested in what you found out. AZbowhntr Report post Posted May 22, 2014 At least it is putting the way point where it is supposed to. On my last GPS I got to where I would mark a way point and instantly go back in and set it to go to way point. Some times it would be a 1/4 mile away. Without me taking one step from where I marked it. Talk about frustrating.

Luckily I noticed and knew where the truck was at the time or it could have been rough.

Don't know how if you just use mark waypoint it would be anyplace but where you are.
