Well its time to put in for deer and I really want to hunt coues down south. My wife is really not happy with me putting them in for down there. I want to camp out for the week and have a great time like I would in all the northern units. Would you guys take a 10 and 12 yr old down there and be comfortable without any issues? I'm still torn about this

yes but I would take extra precautions like choosing a wise spot to camp.

Camp close to other camps and you should have no problems. Camped down there for the first time in years last year and didn't see any suspicious activity or hear anything during the night. I was in a tent trailer also. Might do it again this year if I have to get a leftover tag.

I'm probably gonna take a few juniors down there this year. I've seen some sketchy stuff down there, but the "bad guys" want nothing to do with you or the kids. They want to keep a low profile. I sleep with a shotgun next to my bed roll and a pistol in an ankle holster, but I wouldn't hesitate at all to take a kid down there. I'm more worried about the people they come in contact with at school!

Yeah I'm more worried about the weirdos sitting in cars outside the schools watching kids walk home than I am hunting down south.

My daughter is 26, grown up, and a girly girl, and is not into hunting. But it pays to be cautious anywhere we hunt.

There is nothing better, than a protective father, carrying large caliber weapons.

The people coming over are like the deer you hunt they want nothing to do with you.

and the smugglers that may come in contact with you will / may do anything to get away.....hence the automatic weapon. B)

just be aware is all.............................

Two of my three kids are combat seasoned marines, so yes, I would love to have them along.

The bad guys from down Mexico way, exploit weaknesses in border law enforcement and have for the most part, chosen the indian reservation and Nat'l monument lands to enter the US.

I spend several weeks per year packing into the Whetstones, and it has been a decade since I encountered illegals in there. Only encounters I've had in there since 2004 are with local cowboys and the Border Patrol. Spent last Christmas and Thanksgiving in those beloved hills. Last X-mas eve, the BP saw my camp from the air and sent a couple agents in to investigate. They too said they had seen no illegal activity in the area.

I won't even go down there myself. Pretty sure Id shoot people, any foreigner carrying a gun into this country in my opinion is a target and declaring war.

Last year I took my 10 yr old to 36B for his Wt hunt (successful), because we live in Tucson and doing day trips was not an issue. We both had rifles and sidearms, I let him carry a 22 caliber sidearm he thought that was really cool. The whole way down there I prepped him for the "what when situations" and told him if we were to get into a problem to use as needed. Glad we didn't have too.

Never saw any illegals but the trash and make shift huts were everywhere. If I owned some type of a travel trailer camping wouldn't be an issue (I do it all the time with my buddies on the genral hunts), tent maybe not so much just for securing items. Like most replies have stated, camp near others and preferrably off a main road.

There are plenty of main roads with plenty of pull-offs to park trailers. Good luck.
