willhunt4coues Report post Posted May 14, 2014 I have had a .308 shooting 175 gn bullets and a 7mm shooting 168gn bullets both were more than 1.5 lbs difference. There is a lot that can play factors in this heck they could have even been using a 7mm that was heavier. Anyways I know for a fact what I have experienced from MULTIPLE rifles and to me a .308 I can shoot over 50 rounds in a day without any arm soreness compared to a 7mm I get about 10 rounds and I have to put it away. I have moved on and sold all my guns for 2 6.5 Creedmoors that I and my son (7years old) can shoot all day and be very precise and accurate.

rcdinaz Report post Posted May 16, 2014 7mm is a great round, don't trade it, take it to a gunsmith and have them put a muzzle break on it and that will take out a lot of the kick. It will make it louder but it is worth it. No don't sell it! Just shoot reduced loads and it will kick just like a smaller caliber. There is no reason you cant make it into a 7mm-08 with your loads or the factory reduced recoil rounds. Second option, rebarrel it. I just sold a 6-284 barrel on here, with the dies and some bullets for less than the cost of the custom die set . You cold get a take off barrel for nothing and pick your caliber 6mm, 6.5mm, .308 etc. Search sites like long range hunting, snipers hide, etc and you will find a barrel. Take it to a good smith like the guys at Phoenix Customs and let them install and make sure everything is in place. If you need someone closer I am sure someone can suggest a smith in your area. willhunt4coues Report post Posted May 16, 2014 Heck ya like rcdinaz said re barrel it. It will still be cheaper to almost fully customize it with the barrel of your choice than to sell it and get a new gun which will not shoot as good as the custom. 6.5x284 will surely get you out there to as far as you want. Or you could go with 6.5x06 i heard those are a blast too shoot. I know the new 26 nosler thats what you should re barrel it for.
Coach Report post Posted May 17, 2014 Good call, I have a Savage 25-06 I was considering offering in trade. It's an awesome gun - great accu-trigger, shoots like a lazer, but I hardly ever use it because it's so heavy. It's the 110FP with a 1" bull barrel and weighs in around 12 pounds with the 4-16x50mm scope. It would be an awesome antelope rifle since you don't have to hump it up and down mountains all day, but at even with my bonus points in the teens, I don't know if I'll ever get to use it for that. One thing for sure, it's a lot of fun to go blast p-dogs with.
