shortpants Report post Posted January 5, 2007 1 2 3 4, aah, I can't count very good but that deer seems to have a lot of points! It is very rare to find a 4x4 coues. Congrats on a fine trophy.
az4life Report post Posted January 5, 2007 I agree with shortpants... 4 pointers are not that common on coues and your thought that he aint so big might just be cause you are used to hunting carp. Nice buck!

samadams9 Report post Posted January 5, 2007 Thanks for all the positive responses. I hunted for about 5 total days and didn't see a lot of deer (I'm used to CO mule deer hunting) but I did see a number of bucks and two bigger then this guy prior to the hunt, but I think they went to Mexico for the holidays. I just have one question. I thought the dec. hunt was a rut hunt and never even saw a buck and doe on the same ridge together. Is the good weather and the length of the hunt the reason why these late hunts are in such demand?
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 5, 2007 The Dec hunt is a bit early to hit peak of the rut, but you do usually see at least some rutting activity. In my opinion, that Dec hunt is so popular because of the cooler weather, longer hunt, lower hunt density and bucks are generally more visible because they are usually searching for does. azcouesandelk Report post Posted January 9, 2007 Great first buck there and it would be a great buck anytime. I agree with Amanda about the hunt being the length of the hunt and the possibility of the rut starting to kick in.
