capoeirajosh Report post Posted May 10, 2014 Slowly acquiring backpacking equipment and am looking to get one of the jetboils. My question is, which one to get? It looks like there are a bunch of different models. This will be for backpack hunts and backpacking in general. Will be using it mostly for the mountain house meals and coffee. What do you suggest?? cohofishing Report post Posted May 10, 2014 I have the older, heavier model. Been using it for over six years. I like it so much that I use it even if I am camping by the truck. It is a little heavier than other stoves but the reviews on it by other hunters were great and I have no complaints. I would love to up grade to the flash cooking system carbon. Fill it half way with heet and light it, less than ten minutes later you have boiling water. Best part is that it only weighs like 3oz and fits in a small pocket. They even bought their own fuel cans to use with my jet boil last season lol. I have a bad habit of sleeping at my glassing point. Making hot coffee silently without a fire makes the amazing Arizona morning views while glassing that much better. I have tried and made several alcohol stoves. They work fine but the real issue i had with them is the fuel. No matter what I stored it in inside my pack, it always seems to leak. The sealed cans from Jetboil and similar are just too convenient. My friend cooks in his but I just heat water and use instant coffee so there is never any clean up. Make coffee in my mug and pour hot water in the mountain house bags. Awesome! I ended up going with the flash java. Brought it out on my turkey hunt. I LOVE THIS THING!! So quick and convenient. Makes coffee so friggin fast, haha.
