Question for the Cope lovers

Recommended Posts

I've been chewing Cope for most of my life. I started when I was 15. I'm pushing 35 now. I've noticed some bumps under my tounge kind of below my teeth. Went to the Dr. today and he said its probably not that big of a deal if they don't hurt. He refered my to a Otolarygology-ENT specialist to be safe. Have any of you had anything like this?

I don't dip chew (one bad habit I was fortunate enough to avoid in my life.....), but I have had a close friend go through mouth cancer due to chewing. Bumps in the mouth and under the tounge are common. Based on your habit though, I would definitely talk to the ENT guy to check it out.

This link is definitely NOT intended to scare you, only to give you information. http://www.healthline.com/health-slideshow/what-does-mouth-cancer-look#1

Good luck quitting!

Stan

Yeah didn't open that link. Looked at a lot of em yesterday and they scared me enough. Thats what got the fire goin under my butt to get them looked at. I've always had little bumbs that were on the inside of my lip that go away but I've never noticed these other ones. It's a wake up call for sure.

I know dentists who chew. They say most oral cancer is not from chewing. With that being said, this Wednesday I'll be 14 years off Copenhagen......... ;)

What do you mean by below your teeth? Tongue is behind your teeth so i am confused. I have had bumps before that were nothing and very common so trying to figure out what you mean. I had complications from chewing so i have quit

I've had the lip ones as well, but I don't think I've had the under the tongue ones... Did cope/skoal for 10 years, finally quit for good dec 2012. Still get a hankering for it though every once in a while... Good luck, hope it's nothing.

I guess a more acurate discription would be behind my teeth. Dr. didn't seem that concerned and when I scheduled my other appointment they didn't seem concerned when I said there is no pain. Time to quit regardless.

Tell your wife it's not personal during the 1st 2 weeks of trying to quit. You will be moodier and meaner than a girl with PMS. Good luck you can do it! Think of the money you will save too.

Quit! One less thing to worry about. Feb 2013 ended my 22 year habit. My Dad who has always lived healthy and never chewed got tongue cancer. The day he started treatment is the day I stopped.

There is enough poison in our processed food and water that you dont need this too. It's hard but worth it. PM with any questions if you want thoughts on quitting.

It's good that you're concerned about it and I agree with everyone on here who encouraged you to quit. Sounds like you have a good start on quitting. (I don't know what it is about chew but from people I've seen try to quit and eventually quit, I'd put quitting chew up there with the hardest stuff to quit.) You can do it!

It's hard to quit unless you 100% want to! I'm 31 and started skoal at 13, cope snuff at 16. I've tried a few times but when the stressful times hit you there's nothing like takin a chew. About 5 years ago I quit for almost two weeks. Had a hard day at work, got pissed and left early for the day. Worried about it all night. Next morning I took a chew and was fine. It's not easy unless you want it. I don't have any bumps (that I'm aware of?) but the gum line is defenanatly getting lower, long in the tooth. As I sit here now with a chew in my lip and a whiskey in my hand all I can say is don't ever start!! It's heck kicking it.

I have been chewing since I was 4 years old and still love it at times. I have thought I have quit many times and like muledeerarea33 said when the stress hits there is nothing better. I had actually quit for 3 months till last week a stressful job at work took me back, chewed 2 cans in 3 days. This weekend got a roll of tobacco less herbal chew, see if it helps. I have had plenty of not and blisters on my lip but never behind my teeth. Hope the specialist find not wrong.

One time I quit chewing for a little over nine months. I went on a turkey hunt and decided to have a chew out two just while I was hunting. The cravings came back with a vengeance and I've been chewing again ever since. If you do decide to quit don't ever take another chew, not even one.
