Anderson_HOTD69 Report post Posted May 5, 2014 So my boyfriend and I went fishing at Canyon Creek this Saturday on our way down to the valley. After filling our limits we started loading everything up to head back to the truck. Someone in plain day light stole our stringer with our trout on it. I know what your thinking, 1. the fish on the stringer were dead, they did not swim off. 2. the stringer of fish was in the creek about 5 feet from us to our backs while we were fishing a pool, whoever stole them KNEW they were ours. Couldn't believe it.. Biggest trout I ever caught was on that thing, it was by no means a monster but we were looking forward to fish and eggs the next morning for breakfast... So if your out fishing, don't think you are away from all the BS, because it is out there too. Sad thing is, we would have given all of those fish to whoever stole them if they just would have asked. Anyways, after leaving that creek angry and literally sick to my stomach we went to the valley, did our thing and on our way home stopped at Tonto to fish again. Filled our limit, kept a close eye on the fish, and headed home. People like that don't belong in the woods. Plain and simple, it is VERY doubtful, but if your reading this and you happen to be the one that took our fish, I hope you enjoy them and you should be very thankful you didn't get caught walking back to the truck with our fish. Fishing is great at both places folks, water is clear as can be and the fish were biting like crazy.

CouesPursuit Report post Posted May 5, 2014 whoever stole them KNEW they were ours. or whatever stole them. Since you didn't mention seeing anybody and they were only 5 feet away, wouldn't be surprised if it was a critter. Have had many bears birds and small carnivores mess with a stringer in that kind of country. Something to think about anyway, hopefully next time you catch the culprit red handed, pawed, clawed, or talon-ed.
rclouse79 Report post Posted May 5, 2014 I feel your pain. I won't camp at designated camping areas at any body of water due to the riff raff water attracts. It is across the lake in a nice secluded bay or nothing for me. The further you get away from easy points of access the less morons you will find, but they are still there. After driving my boat across Apache to my favorite camping spot this past weekend I went up to the tent site to find piles of used butt wipe on the ground 10 feet from the best tent site. I would hate to meet the person who took three steps from their tent to do their business and then threw the dirty bits of paper up in the air like confetti when they were done. There is no nice way to say it; some people are nothing more than dirty pigs who don't know any better.

Anderson_HOTD69 Report post Posted May 5, 2014 We saw people walk by, I guess I forgot to say that, and some people came to fish next to us and asked to see our fish before we left, that's when we were gathering up stuff and noticed they were gone, they said they seen someone walking down when they were walking up with a stringer that looked like ours. There's no doubt it was a person. I just don't see a point in stealing anything, but whoever stole them better have eaten them (doubtful). Makes me hope they don't ever have kids to teach that crap like that is ok to do, people go to the woods to get away from that stuff.

mr.smith Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Thieves suck! FYI, whether you took them home or not it still counts as your limit and you technically took a double limit of trout on Saturday. Sorry to be the jerk to point that out.
couesmagnet Report post Posted May 6, 2014 I sure hope your not keeping the browns out of there, they are no longer stalking browns and haven't for at last a decade. It sucks when people have to steal anything that isn't bolted down these days.
DesertBull Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Hopefully the fish had a nasty parasite and they get the squirts real bad.

Sorry to be the jerk to point that out. Actually, we didn't. Canyon Creek is 4 Trout PER license.. 2 licenses means 4 trout each totaling 8. Trust me, we check every creek before we go even if we have been there before, each different creek, stream, lake, whatever will have a different limit and different baits, we did NOT fish Canyon Creek after losing the trout, went home empty handed. So nothing to really point as, as no laws or regulations were broken. And there was over 24 hours difference and different creeks with different limits.

No, they were all rainbows. 1 was a stock fish from last year that didn't get taken out of there, the rest were dumb little stocker rainbows. I think the only brown I've caught was in Oak Creek, but I could be wrong on that lol. I just get excited when I catch one lol

In mr.smith's defense, the 24 hours is the only thing that kept you from breaking the law, which wasn't at all clear the first time. Anyways, after leaving that creek angry and literally sick to my stomach we went to the valley, did our thing and on our way home stopped at Tonto to fish again. Filled our limit, kept a close eye on the fish, and headed home. You claimed to fill limits twice, once on each creek, which would be: (4 fish x 2 people x 2 occasions = 16 trout) You are allowed 6 each in a single day: ( = 12 trout) So unless you stopped at 2 each on the Tonto.. Please understand, I'm not trying to be the jerk either but based on what you said, it sounded like you accidentally committed a game violation and sometimes a nice reminder like that protects our resources for the future and could save you a ticket. Sorry you were stolen from, that really does suck, especially in a situation like the one you described. Tight lines and good luck.
Anderson_HOTD69 Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Either way, Tonto Creek and Canyon Creek have different SITE SPECIFIC limits. If there was any question that I "broke the law" I wouldn't have posted it on a forum where I know for a fact Game Wardens are on here lol. Watched it happen too many times to people I know get in trouble like that
