KaibabHunter Report post Posted April 30, 2014 Now that I have my new Kodiak tent I'm looking to organize the space with a setup ideal to sleep 3. I like the disc-o-cot bunk bed cot and something like the cabelas XL which is wider than a normal cot. Anyone upgrade to a trailer/toyhauler looking to get rid of their tent gear let me know. tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 30, 2014 Be sure to purchase a good pad for your cot. I have the Sportsman's brand and love it. It makes all the diffference. TJ
KaibabHunter Report post Posted April 30, 2014 Thx for the tips. I should've prefaced that I'm looking to buy used mainly for the disc-o-cot bunks cause they're pretty pricey brand new. Been watching craigslist but getting impatient. The cabelas XL is $129 I think and they're gonna have a sale on May 4 so I'll probably pick that one up but I believe it's the cabelas brand only so the discos will not be on sale. Tj I do have a 48" wide cabelas sleep pad which is why I want the XL.
kazpilot25 Report post Posted April 30, 2014 I use a Slumberjack Big cot and love it. It's quiet, solid, and the rubber feet give me comfort that my Kodiak floor won't get ripped. Once my girls get a bit older, I'm thinking of getting the bunk cots or upgrading to a trailer of sorts.

creed Report post Posted April 30, 2014 Ryan, I am in the same boat. I have done a lot of research and the disc-o-beds seem to get the highest marks. However, I have a couple of friends that swear by air mattresses. For the price they carry an extra just in case of a puncture. I am giving this some serious thought just to see how it works. A floor liner would have to be a must I would think to help prevent things from getting under it and puncturing it. Also I would want a DC air pump or a manual pump. DC pumps are on the www for around $20 http://www.target.com/p/coleman-comfortsmart-double-high-airbed-with-built-in-pump/-/A-14348119?ref=tgt_adv_XSB10001&AFID=shopzilla_df&LNM=14348119&CPNG=Sports&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=35-200324739-2 I have self inflating mattresses and 4" foam mattresses. I would be packing one extra with me the first couple of times out just in case this didn't work.
rthrbhntng Report post Posted April 30, 2014 I have the 10X14 Kodiak and two of the XL cots takes up a lot of room. Got a smaller cot for the GF. If you don't need the XLs don't get them. I have a large Butler bag so I need the XL. We have our tent set up with a cot on each side and a small 4' table in the back. Works well. Thing to keep in mind is that even though the floor is 10X14 the walls are angled and where the cot meets with wall, especially if the cross brace in the cot sticks out, you lose about a foot of room so the cot really sticks into the area you think you will have left. Borrow a cot first and try it out. If you need to borrow let me know I have 2 of the XLs, maybe one to sell, and one smaller one. Don't forget to protect the floor and I use cut tennis balls where the cot cross brace pokes the tent. Steve
KaibabHunter Report post Posted May 1, 2014 I went with the 12x9 with enclosed awning Kodiak so any tables etc will be in the bonus room. I'll see how that cabelas sale works out and go from there. Thx for all the recommendations. Ryan

chopshop Report post Posted May 2, 2014 I have the disc-o-bed bunk cots, purchased them over a year ago. They are great for a space saving, we have a 12x12 Alaknak. However here are the cons; very heavy to transport around, a pain in the rear to set-up and also a pain to take down, also they're not very comfortable without a nice pad on them. Would I purchase them again...... probably not. Would I sell mine...... I just might, let me think about it over the weekend.
