Arrowsniper Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I'm thinking of getting a side by side Ranger Utility Vehicle, anyone recommendations for a quality tough "small" trailer. I want to keep it small, just for the Ranger, not much gear space is need outside of the Ranger. I saw a black one the other day, that sits up high, but didn't catch the makers name. I will be towing with p/u 5.3 liter
Edge Report post Posted April 23, 2014 What are you going to pull it with? About a 12' light tandem axle with ramp tailgate would be your best bet. You get a better ride for your UTV, it isn't shook to death trailering out. Also a tandem allows you to put more weight over the axles and less on the tongue, making less weight on the vehicles bumper. A good light tandem will also offer at minimum, rear trailer brakes. Getting good clearance is simple as tall tires and body lifts are easy as placing the springs over the axles. Friend of mine bought a single axle 8' or 10' trailer at Home Depot to put a Ranger on. Ranger was too long and I had to modify the trailer for him.
KaibabHunter Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I got a 6' x 10'.5" last year. Just enough room once my 07 ranger 700 is loaded to put the coolers on the rear and 4" clearance each side. Knowing what I know know I'd probably go for a 12' for more space but mine is a tough trailer that I've taken into some tight spots. About as small as you would want to go IMO. I now load it backwards to prevent sway FYI.
Edge Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Nice rig, Kaibab. Yeah my buddy must have bought an 8' trailer, couldn't get the tailgate all the way up. That trailer looks about maxed out.
More D Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I would stay away from the home depot/lowes trailers. my uncle had a heck of a time when a bearing went out up in norther az finding parts. the builder of those trailers used different bearings PER SIDE! I would stop by Wheel Equipment off of Ajo in Tucson before you buy one of those. he says it is cause they use what ever is cheapest parts wise. I got a 6x12ft trailer for my ranger. only a few times had i wished for a bigger one lenghtwise. money aside i would do electric brakes before i did tandam axels. cramerhunts Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Deer Valley Trailer sells a haulrite that I believe is called a sidewinder. Jut perfect fit for a ranger but nothing else. It is built well as it is all steel, sits high, and follows the same track as your pull vehicle. I've had two of them and put them through some serious crap. Since I went to a four seater I had to get a longer trailer to accommodate and the sidewinder doesn't have one but I still went with another haulrite. Snapshot Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Big Tex has some good trailers for decent prices. I have been eyeballing some of them. Hope to get one in the next year.
AxisWorks LLC Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I bought a Big Tex 50LA for my Polaris Ranger Crew. 12' tandem axle with brakes, and LED lighting. (The tailgate will fold both ways in case you want to haul empty it will fold forward and lay on the bed of the trailer) It can also be completely removed relatively quickly. ( I found this feature pretty handy when I used it to haul block from Home Depot last week). It allows a forktuck to pull right up to the back of it to load pallets on. $2500 new. rossislider Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I have a 14ft single axle that I haul my Ranger Crew in. IMO single axle is the way to go. I can unhook my trailer and push it myself unassisted when needed. May not sound like a big thing, but it is. Already had a couple of buddies sell their tandem axles after seeing how easy mine is to maneuver. Also better on gas milage and no brake control is needed.

I do have to hook the trailer to the ranger to back it into my RV gate. I thought long and hard single axle vs tandem. Keep in mind blowing a tire on a tandem axle with brakes vs a single without. since my wife pulls the Ranger with her 4 runner on occasions because I'm pulling the travel trailer on trips it was a no brainier to go tandem. (tires cost 2X though also)
