PatrickJr Report post Posted April 21, 2014 On Saturday, I competed in the SCTP State Sporting Clays Commissioners Cup up at Ben Avery. I was on a squad that has a total of 3 shooters, but we normally shoot with another squad during competition. well, there were so many kids signed up for this shoot, that we (my squad) had to shoot with 2 other squads! this made up a total of 9 kids shooting together, we knew it was going to be a long day. We had some trouble with some P.I.T.A. Refs but we got through it, I had trouble on a few stations (we shot at 10 stations and you shoot 10 birds at each) and on those 2 stations I shot a 5 and a 6, the rest of the stations I got 8s, 9s, or 10s. My squad ended up with a total of 227/300 and I got an 82/100, with my other squadmates getting a 72/100 and a 73/100. we started shooting at 9 and didn't finish until 11:45. We dropped off the scoresheet, and we checked the standings, some other Junior Varsity squad had njust posted a 229. we knew the best we could do is 2nd. that's what we ended up with, there was 22 JV squads and we got 2nd. There was 60+ JV shooters and I placed 1st as an individual! I wish that those refs wouldn't have screwed us(because they cheated us out of 4 birds that may have cost us the title), but it was a good day. If it weren't for this shoot, id be turkey hunting. Please post if you had a child compete in this event, I would love to hear. last year we placed 3rd in a lower division and I didn't even place as an individual, but we are climbing fast, on to VARSITY! the 1st pic is my individual trophy (I don't know why my dad is hiding) the 2nd is our squad honor, and both my squadmates had already left Thanks for reading!

Heat Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Hey Patrick, Keep up the great shooting. That is something to be proud of. Congratulations! Nick PS - My stepson Andrew will be participating in the Commissioner's Cup for Trap in Tucson this upcoming weekend. His mom and I are expecting a newborn any day or else I would be there with him. His grandma is taking him to Tucson, so he doesn't miss out. He shoots for the Yuma Young Guns team.

I hope he does well and has a good squad!
PRDATR Report post Posted April 22, 2014 Yeah but how many boxes does it take you to get a limit of Doves? LOL. Seriously though, that is some very good shooting.
Little Creek Calls Report post Posted April 22, 2014 This is great. After seeing all the money and time my extended family sink into little league sports for their kids then seeing a neighborhood boy get involved in similar competition shooting events I told my wife this would be something I would rather encourage our boys to get into when they are old enough. I wish I would have been involved in something like this when I was younger.

I normally will go through only 10-15 shells(assuming I even see a limit of doves) but if it is a bad day I will have to open a second box This is great. Heat Report post Posted April 30, 2014 Hi Patrick, Just wanted to update you on last weekend. My stepson Andrew shot his first perfect round of 25 during the SCTP Commissioners Cup Trap competition under what I understand were some miserably windy conditions. We believe his team finished second for their group. Not sure how he finished individually, but we couldn't be more proud of him. 8 rounds of trap is a lot for anyone to shoot, but Andrew shot 4 20's, a 17, a 19, a 22 and the 25. This is the first team he has been a part of and he improved tremendously over the course of the season. Parents this is an excellent program to build lifelong skills in our young people while enjoying the outdoors. If your kids have any interest I would highly recommend the program. Good Luck, Nick

Good Luck, Nick tell him i said congrats! i was also out there on saturday. I was refereeing and it was hardn for me to watch these kids miss birds that they would have hit if it was a good day, We ran 5 squads through and only had 1 25 straight, so he did very well! as long as he sticks with it, he will win a championship or two I hope that you can send him to presott on june 10th (i think) for the SCTP Western regionals for trap. I wont be there, but i will be up in flagstaff for the regional sporting clays shoot.
