chico Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Thought I would throw this out in case anyone has run into this. Long crank times/no start issues. Engine fires then stalls. Problem- Fuel drains back to tank due to vacuum leak at fuel priming pump housing.. A reseal kit is available for the fuel priming pump at some parts stores . Before fuel filter housing was non serviceable- now can be taken care of.

Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Also the impeller driven "fuel pump" often becomes too weak to deliver consistent fuel. I added an inline pump just above the tank and it made all the difference.
AxisWorks LLC Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Don't bother with the filter housing rebuild kit. Add a lift pump and bypass the housing all together. Adding a positive feed behind the high pressure pump is a must for any Duramax and should have been done from the factory. If anyone wants more info on adding a lift pump to a Duramax feel free to PM me.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks for the info. Mine did exactly what you said chico. My truck fired up then died. It would crank over but would not start. After work I bled the air out and had to pump the primer pump several times. Running good now but I expect it to happen again. TJ
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Mine would only do that after a long pull in warm weather, TJ... and now no problems since I added the extra pump.

My truck did the same last year after I pulled the 260 hill and broke down for several hours at the top next to the ranger station. TJ
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 19, 2014 If you re-bleed your fuel pump it will re fire right away... that cost me $125 to figure out the first time...lol.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks Gino. I ran it out of gas once going up Mt Ore. Lenea & Daniel brought me gas and I got it home and took it to a garage when all I needed to do I think was bleed it myself. OUCH! $500 later TJ
