Broad heads for elk, 2014

Recommended Posts

This decision is already haunting me at T-minus 211 days. I had both a muzzy mx3 and ulmer edge perform exactly as desired in the last 6 months. Both were on deer however, which isn't quite comparable to a bull except for shot placement, which is #1 and my first priority.

My plan is to tune my muzzys as best as possible with my newly acquired dozen arrows and fall back on the ulmers for accuracy if needed, any thoughts? I am shooting 400+ gr VAPs at 280FPS. Thanks in advance.

I've killed 12 bulls with a bow, and i have never had a pass thru yet. I want to switch to a fixed blade this year myself. Sounds like it's either the g5 or the muzzy this year for me. For once it would be nice to follow a 2 hole blood trail.

First bull I shot was a pass trough with 100 gr muzzy at 54 yards and arrow went 40 yards pilled in to a pine tree buried bout 3 inches. New bow don't like the muzzys . Switched to slick trick mag for this years hunt. No tune needed shot like field tips out to 80 yards .

Wac Em' The Best broadhead Period!! Great penetration, easy to tune and tough as nails!

No offense but there is no Best Broadhead out there. They are all good and everyone likes their own for whatever reason they choose

I have shot 2 bulls and 1 cow using Magnus Stingers. All of them have been complete pass throughs. One bull was at 68 yards and left perfect x marks through ribs on both sides. That bull only went about ten feet and dropped. My antelope a couple years ago was also a pass through at 50 yards. I watched a good friend of mine shoot a bull at 40 yards and his arrow went through both shoulder bones. It made a loud crack noise on impact. Recently my son used a Grave Digger expandable with a cut on contact head. He blew through a pig shooting a 35 pound bow. I think cut on contact heads are very important and allow the broadhead to penetrate bone much easier and retain kinetic energy. David

100 grain grizz tricks pushed by a fullmetal jacket is devastating on any animal not one animal I have shot with this set up has been able to stop the arrow (bow Hoyt burner 27"draw 70 lbs)

I killed my bull last year using the Ulmer Edge. I shoot a 67# draw and I hit him at 27 yards through both lungs. I heard him drop at no more than 70 yards. That being said, the arrow did not go all the way through. It hit ribs on both sides but did not break them, just went in between. The broadhead was just under the skin on the far side. I personally believe that fixed blades penetrate better, but the Ulmer Edge was very accurate and was the first broadhead I have ever shot that flew just like my fieldpoints. My fixed blades were very inconsistent with my new bow so I went with what I was confident with and it worked out just fine.

Whatever is Sharp and flies out of your bow like your target tip, other then that it doesen't really matter what you shoot.

I have killed with Diamonds,Muzzy ,Satelites, thunder head 100's, bear, Slick tricks,Rocky's,Wacems Slick tricks and many more,

it only matters what flies good out of your bow,
