naturegirl Report post Posted April 16, 2014 Hope this is the right spot. I got a new truck and would like to get a leveling kit when it becomes available Ram 1500. Here's my question to anyone who has had a leveling kit installed...Does it affect the ride of the truck in anyway? I must say I like the way it drives right now. My husbands 3500 is a little rough which is to be expected, but this 2500 they gave me as a rental drives rougher than the 3500 so it has me thinking about the leveling kit. Thanks! corps013 Report post Posted April 16, 2014 I have a Ready Lift leveling kit on my truck and the wifes Yukon. I got the leveling kit on my truck when they first came out for my 2002 Sierra. I had to buy different shocks due to the extension. When I bought the leveling kit for my wifes Yukon several years later, the company fixed the issue and I did not need to buy different shocks. The overall ride is comparable to the factory ride.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted April 16, 2014 +1 on the shocks, the Truxx kit is the best out there I think and they're out of Tucson.
Heat Report post Posted April 16, 2014 No love for the the stinkbug look eh? I can't understand for the life of me why any auto maker would send a truck out the factory looking like that. Good Luck! Leveling is one of the first things I did when I got new tires on my truck.
Workman Report post Posted April 16, 2014 Leveling kits on independent front suspension vehicles are no good in my opinion. They throw off the whole geometry of front end, tie rods are at much more of an angle which puts more stress and wear on your steering rack, ball joints are angled much more and tend to wear out faster, if 4x4 your front axles are at more of a angle which wears the CV joints and transfer case/front diff. Now think about all the angles at static ride height vs stock setup. So you get longer shocks so you still have downward travel, more downward travel even worse angles on everything. So now you're out hunting or off-road somewhere and get in a bind with one front tire In a hole, great you have more downward travel so the tire still has traction, problem is the CV joint is more than likely bound up and when you give it gas in 4 wheel drive you can easily break that axel/CV joint and tie rods, then you are done on the spot. Has happened to me twice. Won't ever do that again! Get a actual lift kit where it drops the transfer case to keep front 4x4 axels at the proper angle, and has new spindles to keep the tie rods true to your steering rack. I'm no mechanic but I know from experience and have heard it first hand from the mechanics fixing the aftermath.
Basser15 Report post Posted April 16, 2014 I've had the leveling kits installed on both of the Fords I've owned and they ride just as good, if not better, in my opinion. My kits did not need new shocks. Can't remember the name of the brand that I have
