rancilio Report post Posted May 29, 2014 bluedevil, archery or gun? I came over to see your lab last year. I ended up heading out of town shortly afterwards. I will finally be back late June. Have you been out after local coyotes or cats?
bluedevil99 Report post Posted May 29, 2014 Most likely going to be rifle. It is open to both. I actually haven't done any hunting lately. I just got back from Afghanistan. So I am trying to get back into the swing of things for this years seasons.
Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted May 31, 2014 You will find that Safford is very similar to Afghanistan........which may be good or bad in your opinion. Unfortunately I spend the winters in Safford (after enjoying Alpine for 9 months of the year) !!!
rancilio Report post Posted May 31, 2014 Having spent time in both Safford and Afgh, I find the locals in Safford to have much more favorable personalities. The food is not quite as good though, but the women are easier to talk too in Safford. Considering which area to vacation in, I suppose Safford wins. The opportunity to walk around the Safford area looking for elk edges Afgh off the list.
cohntr6 Report post Posted June 2, 2014 I decided to get that tag several years ago and never saw an elk in 3 or 4 outings. I did find sign but never a tan hide. Hunting in the east end unit 28 is best up against New Mexico and close to the south end of unit 27 boundry and then on the other (west) end of 28 up against the San Carlos reservation. In unit 31/32 the most sign I have seen is the Bonita side of these units but there tends to be some private land around Bonita so keep that in mind.. I may be up for this tag if we dont draw any deer tags Jeff
Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Hey Jeff did you or any of your buddies draw any elk tags this year? I'm bumping into cameras and 50# salt blocks with frequency again this year
cohntr6 Report post Posted June 18, 2014 Nothing for me or any friends. I know a few people at work that drew. How did you do? Is the salt/cameras showing up where we share a ridge? Jeff
Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted June 18, 2014 Jeff my brother drew an archery bull tag this year and was the only lucky one in our family or hunting group. Haven't made it to our ridge yet this year and was wondering with all the activity already seeing in the forest. Sorry to hear no luck on tags this year. I share your luck. John7979 Report post Posted December 26, 2014 Bluedevil did you end up going? I've been in 28 for 2 weeks and nothing! I'm going by Bonita Friday morning. If you went do you have any pointers?
