bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 10, 2014 Has anyone ever participated in this hunt? I am fairly new to the area and have never hunted Elk before. I know what the game and fish website says about the hunt and the very low success rate. So just looking for some ideas and pointers. Or if it is even worth getting the tag. reganranch Report post Posted April 10, 2014 I've had cameras deep in the Galiuros for 18 months and never got an elk of any kind on camera. Mt. Graham would be a better spot to hunt. If there are any elk in 32/31 they are few and far inbetween.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted April 10, 2014 They're in there. Most people who know where they frequent won't say a word about the where abouts.
bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 10, 2014 Well I am down at Fort Huachuca so it looks like I will be looking for either 32 or 31.
3Coues3 Report post Posted April 10, 2014 I have personally seen them in 32 and ran into a few others that have seen them as well. But like mentioned above those that know where they are don't release that info.
Coues79 Report post Posted April 11, 2014 Not too many in 31 any longer. I used to see elk every year for consecutive years in a couple of places; even took a few including a good bull..... no longer in there.
bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 11, 2014 Is there anyone that plans on doing the OTC hunt in either of these units that might want to team up?
Hunter4Life09 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 I have hunted 31/32 area all my life and have had one encounter with 1 elk lol I would think it would be an extremely hard hunt...As for unit 28 I have seen quite a few elk I'm not sure if they still have the otc tags but that would be the way to go
reganranch Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Is there anyone that plans on doing the OTC hunt in either of these units that might want to team up? Blue devil if I was still in Tucson I would take you up on this.
bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 They do have 28 open it is just a little more of a drive for me. Maybe I need to start looking at that as an option.
bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 I just don't want to get in too far over my head as a first timer. I have been in AZ since 2012 but spent half of the time in Afghanistan so really only a year there. Definitely looking forward to the challenge and even more so the meat. bluedevil99 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 So in retrospect looking at Unit 28 it really isn't all that far away from me. It seems Clifton is about 2 1/2 hours which isn't too bad. So how about that unit 28?
MRL1984 Report post Posted April 15, 2014 28 is hard. Same as has been said for 31/32 those who know where they are don't spill beans.
