Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Now I am not an alarmist but wanted to bring this up..... Some friends in Central AZ have come upon two bulls (at different times/locations) that appeared paralyzed in the hind end and no signs of being wounded. This was in just the last couple weeks. They have alerted AZGFD and it is being looked into. I was wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar while in the elk woods this spring?
elkhunter Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Might be algae problem, is there flowing water in the area or just tanks? It happened last year in New Mexico with low water level and high algae blooms which produced enough neurotoxin to paralyze wildlife

elkhunter Report post Posted April 7, 2014 Tyler, were the effects terminal, or temporary? Casey- it killed the elk. About 100 elk died in new mexico last year because of this. Just cuz an elk is paralyzed doesnt mean it's dead, certainly bear/yotes were feasting on live elk!
