Stallone A. Report post Posted April 6, 2014 I know this is out of the ordinary, however, the one tool that is missing in my camping gear box is an axe. I just wanted to see if anybody would want to comment on how great their axe is and why I should purchase it. I am looking for a all purpose axe to set up camp, chop wood, etc. Nothing to large--space is always an issue. Pictures welcomed... Thanks in advance for your help, Anthony

ready2hunt Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Just go to harbor freight. They chop and you can sharpen them. They may not have the Viking look but I doubt you are planning on using it to kill off invading nomads.
PRDATR Report post Posted April 6, 2014 I use a double headed 3/4 axe with a fiberglass handle. I also have a hatchet but I very rarely use it as I will pick up enough kindling to get the fire started. I also have a small fiberglass shovel that is about 30" long for the fire pit. missedagain Report post Posted April 6, 2014 For campfire wood I think a chainsaw is 10 times more useful than an axe, I do split a lot of wood for my house stove and love this axe http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-7884-Super-Splitting-36-Inch/dp/B004M3BAQE

Curtis Reed Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Get a Fiskars. They make both splitting and chopping axes in all different sizes. Look on amazon, they have good prices. Read the reviews, for the money you can't beat them.
5guyshunting Report post Posted April 7, 2014 Get the tsunami its the best great for chopping wood, you wont stink at all and takes up very little space. The women like it, pretty much all purpose.

bojangles Report post Posted April 7, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJlQH93Vx9c wranglerstar has a lot of good videos on axes. i wouldn't get a fiskars, and i break my fiberglass handle on my splitting ax every year. one of these days i'm gonna spring for a real ax. there's a couple of good companies out there that make a decent ax. I've heard good things about stihl axes. they may be next on my list.
