Interpreting Groups

Recommended Posts

I'll throw in my .02, first I'll take a guess and say that your target was at 100 yards and you were shooting at Rio, judging from the target. I would rule out wind with that 7 mag, takes quite abit to move that bullet around at 100, next question was you shooting factory ammo or handloads? With handloads you might try getting your bullet seated about 8-15 thousands off the lands unless your using one that recommends further, ie Barnes. None of those groups are that bad, would kill anything walking in this state and any other, but everyone likes smaller groups! Bedding is also an option, another thing that I personally like to do is use the target in the center for groups so I can make sure my cross hairs are dead center everytime.

I have almost the same setup as you. But now mine is at gunsmith getting some upgrades. But we ran H1000 72.2 grains and sst 162. but 1/4 at 200yds. I also have 8lbs of ram shot magnum that I am not going to work if you would like to buy that from me I think its minus less than 1/4 pound. Just .02 is find what your gun likes. IE: power , charge, bullet and brass and stick with it. You have a very good starting point. Good luck

What was your load for the Re-19. I was up to 64 gr. still wasn't getting fps I wanted but no signs of pressure yet. I do like the re 19&22 for sure. Sounds like I should try the h1000 as well

Have you tested this load off a vice??

Haven't shot off a vice. If you mean a led sled? I used one a long time ago but never felt that confident shooting from it.

The bull was archery last year. Scored right at 350. The most fun I have had hunting! Two brothers and one other friend also scored on nice bulls. The biggest was a 365. We posted last year in the elk forums. Thanks for the kind words

Shedhunteraz, I would probably be interested in a few lbs of the ram shot if you want to work something out. I haven't ever loaded with it, wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

a vice or lead sled is a good way to seperated a poor load from a user/equipment issue. It will never make good practice but its help full to verify the loads strait before regular practicing.
