OTC Elk Tag

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have any pointers on the OTC tags? I was thinking about trying one this year but I didn't know if it was worth it! Anybody had any luck with them? Thank you!

Difficult..... if you're willing to pay I believe Lance guides some hunts up near Winslow... Timberland Outfitters.

These tags don't require any skill, just flat out pure luck, more luck than anyone should ever ask for. Also a ton of time and money. Good luck!!!

I've found elk in the OTC. Plenty of sign in the Winslow area but those elk move a lot in the salt cedars so they are hard to see. I have trail cam pics of some in the Camp Verde area just was never there at the same time as them. As mentioned above, it's all luck and being in the right place at the right time.

My buddies have killed bulls every year in the otc Verde Valley area. Probably wont see anything during a weekend but stay a week and you will find some. i will have to find the pics of the bulls taken the last few years.

Yeah one bull last year a rag horn(JLW buddy) and the year before a small 6x6.

I hunted maybe two weeks in Winslow last year, trying to ambush a little herd I found with no luck. Seems like I will get a chance again this year, I ate tag soup. I hunted last year with my bow but if I would have had a gun I would have got a bull.

In the camp verde area some of the big farms are shooting the elk in the guts with a 22 rifle we got permission to hunt one on the farms oppsite side of the river but when we started hearing and seeing about this we stop going made us sick .

You can call it luck or doing your homework. Im a local in the winslow hunt area but hunt more towards holbrook. There are alot of elk in this area this year they even opened up part of unit 2 but you have to have permission to hunt on the ranch. I believe the best time to go is june july and early august due to the fact that the locals haven't pressure them. The river holds pockets of water and they frequent these daily. Another is finding the food source they love alfalfa and there is plenty of along the river. Here is one of many that I have shot on private property. Good luck

I was thinking about trying one of these tags too. Just not sure if it will be worth it or not. I am not after a trophy but instead some good meat for the freezer. Only issue is that I am down in Fort Huachuca. I have heard mixed reviews on how they are horrible and how they are a great opportunity.
