metau Report post Posted March 23, 2014 Has anyone ever been charged the oversized baggage fee by southwest when traveling with a rod tube? I was shocked this morning when the manager at the counter said it was oversized and therefor subject to a $75 charge.

PRDATR Report post Posted March 30, 2014 I have never been charged and used to do it all the time flying to New Orleans. The one I have is about 6" in diameter and adjusts in length. I usually have it set about 6' long but in order to cut down on my airport time I now just leave a rod there and just bring reels.
Big Tub Report post Posted March 30, 2014 I took a two piece to Farmington one time. Made it OK to Alb. but then got folded into the luggage compartment on the puddle jumper to Farmington. What a pain. This was way back in the day with no extra cost for luggage. The rod survived but never again. I have a 5 piece now for these trips.
