Only dogs I've ever owned were pit bulls. A bullison (which was a dog fight specific breed) we NEVER fought her! She NEVER showed human aggression. She would actually lick your face off. The two I have now (a papered blue nose & red nose) have NEVER shown human aggression. They are VERY loyal to the owners and very eager to please and work. Actually the only dogs I've had snap at me were my aunts black lab n my buddies golden lab. Over breeding. Interbreeding and flat out abuse of the breed has caused the type of behavior this dog showed during this mauling. It is people that have tarnished the bully breed that used to be Americas dog. A pit bull is more likely to attack another dog than a human. ANY dog is unpredictable. They are animals. Nonetheless IF it were my dog, there would be no question that I'd put her down.

Every dog has its day and all dogs go to heaven.

It's sad for the dog but he needs to go and the babysitter or whoever owns the dog needs to be sited. I say it's sad for the dog because he didn't choose to be raised in what I would suspect is be a poor place for a dog and a sad excuse for a good owner. A dogs aggression comes from its surroundings and it's owner, not a breed. As far as the little boy, I wish him all the luck to a great recovery and I feel bad for the little guy, but who's judgement was it to allow him to stay in a place with such conditions? Would you drop your kid off at a "babysitter" with poorly kept animals in the back yard?

I agree the dog should be put down even tho its not its fault n owner should be sighted for something. On the same note I have had pitbulls for a long time 1st one was a red nose that's dog was the biggest baby. She would sleep on my chest or as close as she could get to me we also had a chow n lab mix n a pomeranian. The chow mix was meaner then all of them it didn't like little kids or people it did t know. Now someone stole my pit bull when we moved out into the sticks that dog would follow us while we were on horse back n stay close to the house n not let unknown dogs on are property. The last pit bull I had was a dog that I actually rescued it was a blue nose n had a Galioth blood line. She was a bait dog her teeth were ground down they bred the crap out of her. I got her she was spookish of everything I bad nutrition. That dog turned around completely just took love n time she ended up being the big baby. I actually had her in home depot one time n a kid came running behind me n the dog started petting her n I turned around n the boys mother came yelling n freaking out thinking my dog was a killer. I told her it was OK but at the same time I had to agree with the chewing she was giving her kid about petting random dogs. The breed does have a bad name but it's all in how they are raised now have turned to boxers which to me are exactly like pits just not as bulky.

What about the article the dogs get a bad rep no matter what either way the dog should be put down for attacking the kid. They say oh it took the dogs bone so it attacked the kid it's a lose lose. People are going to say the dog should live n boycott n make a Facebook for it. Also they do take some what of a special handling there like a human just takes love n attention you treat the mean there going to be mean.

I've never heard of a pack of labs attacking, and killing anyone. ever. Dog attacks and deaths from maulings keep happening, and pits have a very high likeyhood of being the culprit time and time again. i dont like them one bit, too unpredictable.

How many pits have you been around? I have had pits around me my entire life, and I disagree with your statement entirely

None, and I still have all of my face and fingers.

Hmmm.... Funny thing is, so do I!

Bad Pitbulls, usually have bad owners. Any dog can go nuts, at any given time. Some people say their dog would never hurt anyone, then it gets loose, and chews somebody up. You never know. My sister has 2 pitbulls. My young nephew climbs on these dogs like they were a bean bag chair, and they won't even growl at him. It still makes me nervous.

I agree wholeheartedly about bad dogs having bad owners! Here's a good example for you. I was walking my Labrador retriever around the block the other day and one of the people on the next street over went inside and brought his pit bull outside as I was coming down the street with my dog. The only reason he would do this is to try and instigate a dogfight. Luckily I saw the dog before mine did and we did a quick U turn. Some people are complete idiots, that's for sure!

It's not the dogs fault or the kids fault. It's the fault of any and all adults that were there that day and put the child in that situation.

I would have shot the dog just purely out of instinct to save the child but its the parents responsibility to not put their child in any situation to risk injury to them. I have two 110 pound dobermans that are good gentle dogs but i treat them just like my guns. When a child comes into my home i separate them from the dogs so that there is no risk of a child being hurt.

Thank god the kid is still alive and i will bet his parents will never leave him unsupervised again.some people learn the hard way.

Regardless of the dog breed responsible for the damage to the boy's face, It sickens me that so few people want to help the boy and only ~1200.00 has been raised for the boy while the dog has support pouring in from all over, including the lawyer and a defense fund.

Seems to me the child is the victim here and can use all the love and support to get through this hardship rather than making this a fight about the dogs life.

The fault is everybody's. the child should of never of been able to wander I to the yard and take the bone. The yard should of been secure enough that a child could not get into. Bottom line was irresponsibility from both sides. The poor dog should be shot instantly but only because of a bad owner and the babysitter should be charged with child abuse!

I understand you guys love your dogs but the stats are pretty scarey:

from http://www.livescience.com/27145-are-pit-bulls-dangerous.html

"But do pit bulls deserve their reputation as vicious "attack" dogs? An overwhelming amount of evidence suggests they do.

A five-year review of dog-bite injuries from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, published in 2009 in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, found that almost 51 percent of the attacks were from pit bulls, almost 9 percent were from Rottweilers and 6 percent were from mixes of those two breeds"

Never owned a Pitbull but have owned two big Rottweiler's. One was my kids softball team mascot, great dog, everyone loved him but if he had ever attacked a child or anyone ...even while chained, I would have put a .357 round in his head.

That article was painful to read John. They offer statistics without any real numbers and make a lot of generalizations. All hype, pretty sad for a site with the word "Science" in the name.
