Flatlander Report post Posted March 8, 2014 I am currently shopping for a gun safe and wa interested in any recommendations other members might have. My criteria right now are as follows: >20 cuft >20 gun capacity 1 Hour / 1200 deg. Rating >500 lbs Non-Electronic lock I am especially curious about the last one. How does an electronic keypad hold up in a fire? My guess is not so hot, so then how do you get the thing open? Also, are the electronic keypads reliable, anybody had one for more than 20 yrs? If anybody else has any recommendations I would love to hear them. Here is my current #1 contender . . .

goinhuntn Report post Posted March 8, 2014 Liberty safe for me no electronic keypad just a combo lock, but is a great safe!!
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted March 8, 2014 funny it seems like the combo lock safes are more money now and not alot of them out there, i too was not wanting the electronic but came across such a good deal i bought one anyway, i have had no issues and its made by liberty. if it burned you would have to get a safe company to get someone to open it but at least your stuff would be safe. you fire rating option is going to put your option way up in the price fyi. 1 hr is expensive. non electronic is expansive as well. try looking on costco.com they have some good options and reasonable prices, not sure on the list you have. you wont be sorry buying one, feels like a weight off my shoulders having them. ended up with 2 so i can keep a computer hard drive in one and paperwork and pictures form way back in my family hist. my brother inlaws house burned and they lost everything, only thing that hurt them bad was they now have no pictures of family, we all pitched in and found some of ours for the but they still are missing man family members. i also have my bows in one safe since i used to hang my bow on the wall but they are worth more than some of my guns, lol
oz31p Report post Posted March 9, 2014 For what its worth I would not buy a safe that was not a liberty.
AZLance Report post Posted March 9, 2014 Any kind of EMP attack by China, Russia, or a terrorist attack will knock your electronic lock out of commission. You can have your electronic lock changed to standard combination lock by almost any safe or lock company.
Couestracker Report post Posted March 9, 2014 +1 on Liberty or Arizona Safe outlet. Can't go wrong with either. Did you know that you can claim your safe as a safety deposit box? That's 25% tax credit in most cases. Ask your tax preparer.
Swivelhead Report post Posted March 9, 2014 A safe is likely the best money I ever spent. That being said, if I had it to do over again I'd get a safe (or better yet two!) that was about 800#'s. My safe is about 1250 empty and is a bear to move even with the door off.

IA Born Report post Posted March 9, 2014 I have a Cannon safe with an electronic key pad. I think I've changed the battery once or (maybe) twice in 11 years with it. Never had a problem. Back when I bought it, Cannon had the best warranty on the market. Warranty is the bigger factor me; more so than fire rating. The average fire department is not going to get your house fire put out in less time than the fire rating offers in most cases. If you have a warranty issue, most safe companies are going to charge you (~$250) to ship the safe back to them to fix or replace and then charge you again to ship it back to you (another ~$250). Cannon covers ALL shipping costs on warranty issues. That was the biggest selling point for me 11 years ago. I am also looking into a new safe and I haven't seen anyone that matches that warranty option. Liberty is a good safe, but I don't know if their warranty is on par with Cannon. I know my next safe will be another Cannon, though.
Couzer Report post Posted March 9, 2014 Go to Shoppers or Cal Ranch, they have great deals. If you need a 20 gun buy a 40 gun :-)
Flatlander Report post Posted March 9, 2014 I just found this website, very handy. http://gun-safes.findthebest.com/ IA Born - Have you dealt with Cannon's warranty dept. or customer service? I have seen some reviews that were less than favorable but would like feedback from someone credible.

naturegirl Report post Posted March 9, 2014 browning Yukon gold. Does everything we need it to. We don't move very often, but it is a real pain to move even with door off (moved it twice now). it is what it is when something weighs almost 500 lbs. It only has a 30 minute fire rating at 1200 dg though. The rest fits your specs.
