If you didn`t than your chance of drawing will be the same as it always has been because there has never been a cap on tags in units south of the colorado river. Hopefully not to bad, but I guess we won`t know for a couple of years. maybe more nonresidents will put in for the northern hunts and it will help us whitetail hunters! You never know. Guest Lark Hubbard Report post Posted July 19, 2004 the problem is sill shroufe. the 10% cap is lost. no way we're going to come out even the same on this deal. we're going to lose permits to non-residents. the thing that gets me is that they're going to probably be guaranteed. i don't see our present g&f leaders being creative enough to come up with anything other than what some other state has already done. new mex is next door so i'll guess we'll see something real similar to what they have. the thing is, we don't have very many permits to start with. and next year you can bet your butt that the same will happen to pronghorn, bighorn, etc. i've lived her all my life, and i'm old enough to join aarp. so has my dad, his dad, and his dad. i've never had a bighorn permit and i've had one prognhorn tag. took me 26 years of applying to get it. i had a bull elk tag in 27, 4 years ago. that was probably my last elk tag in this state. this whole thing makes me sick. i still maintain that poor leadership by the director and his staff and the commission is what got us here. some years back the lions got so bad on the strip that the deer disappeared. i had a couple conversations with a Azgf bioligist about it. he had made a bunch of recomendations, like allowing non-resident outfitters on the strip and a 2 lion limit, on top of the 1 lion limit for the rest of the state. (at the time non-residents couldn't guide in Az.) shroufe wouldn't go for it because he was afraid of the political ramifications. good scientific data be damned. let politics drive it. well, guess what, the deer population got so low that for several years there was "NO" deer hunt on the strip. got so bad that the lions started starving too. the strip will never recover from this. just another example of how shroufe works. this guy has to go. so does the commission. the commission hires and fires the director. the commission is selected by the governor and her (it's?) cronies. they are well connected political folks who more or less campaign for the job by letting the right folks know they want the job. they seldom have more than a passing interest in hunting or fishing. needs to be at least a couple credible outdoorsmen on the commission. had a good friend on the commission once. he hadn't had a hunting license for over 20 years and was a registered republican. in order to get the job he had to change parties to democrat, to satisfy the governor at the time. this right here tells me that the commission is politically driven. what worries is, what's next? what is the next battle that shroufe is gonna ostrich up and stick his head in the sand? when are we gonna get someone that fights for Arizona and Arizonans. he needs to go back to maine. couesking Report post Posted July 19, 2004 It is very sad when one organization can ruin a good thing. They take something like hunting and turn it into a political mess. Hunting is something that most poeple in my part of the state have been raised by. Poeple like the USO don't realize what a strain they put on the regular poeple who haven't been drawn for bull elk in 8 to 10 years. They don't pay the taxes for our state and our Game and Fish need to grow up and do somehting about this. I can guarantee that the Indian tribe would tell the USO and the Federal Government where to go and how to get there. The USO is nothing more than just overpaid babysitters for the rich. The alternative is scary........I really believe Lark and others are correct........the AZGFD/Commissioners/Attorney Generals office is responsible for not stopping this when they had the chance.
