Are you saying that the 10 percent does not apply now to BULL ELK hunts south of the colorado river? The way I understand it is that the 10% will no longer apply to only the units north of the colorado river for BULL ELK.

treestand, what it means it that the ruling applys only to deer hunts north of the colorado (the strip, kaibab and 12b) and ALL elk hunts, no matter where they are. the deer hunts north of the colorado are the only deer hunts that had the 10% cap on them. it said that the ruling only applys to deer north of the colorado and elk. so far, pronghorn, sheep, bison, turkey, javelina are not affected. we need some g&f folks with some gonads. stand up to these stinkin' fed judges. this is Arizona. it's our wildlife. as soon as anything is politicized it's ruined. set aside a bunch of cow elk tags for non-residents. and have the hunt in ajo. get tough with these sob's. it's time to take a stand and unfortunately we don't have the leadership to do it. like i've stated and so have some others, the game and fish is worried about offending some huggers. i pay the bills and by heck i'm offended. what about me? napalitano needs to fire shrouf. get rid of him. if we put enough pressure on her, she'll have to. then replace the commission. get rid of golightly first, for the simple fact that he's been there too long. at least he's a hunter, but they need new blood. right now we have a rancher, a tire shop owner (golightly, who also happens to be real rich) a lawyer, a guy on the board of directors for every hospital in the state, and a guy with a big construction company. all real rich, very well connected people with absolutely no feeling for the pulse of the real sportsman. get some dedicated outdoorsmen on the commission. someone without an agenda. now is the time to strike, while the iron is hot. write letters and raise heck boys. once napalitinao realizes she ain't gonna win the next election with every outdooorsmen voting against her, she's gotta capitulate. this ain't a very big state and 100,000 votes will usually swing it. she won by less than that. now is time.

LARK,

You seem to be good w/ words. Why don't you go to the press and try to get an article published in the Arizona Republic or Tribune.

The cap applies to ALL BULL elk and only deer units about the C. River.

New Mexico has a different way of implementing a cap. 78% of all tags go to residents.

This leaves 22%.

12% of the 22% go strictly to outfitters they can deploy this tags however they want.

The remaining 10% go to non-residents

In the NW system, the outfitters make out great. They get STRICTLY 12% of the tags, but also have the opportunity to guide non-residents and residents that draw a tag not from their pool of 12%.

I wonder what the numbers are, with regards to the amount of non-residents that apply for deer, north of the colorado river and for elk state wide. Are we talking about a small percentage of people or is this a staggering number? I'm sure it is the later.

I was extremely angery when with first came down and still am, I'm trying to look at this with a positive outlook. We don't really know how this will come out. It might not be that bad. But if it turns out ugly. We hunters have to stand together, write letters, make phone calls to our govenor, complain, let our voices be heard. We are the only ones that can make a difference.

As a non resident (New Mexico) I am appalled at what some of you so called sportsman have threatened on this site. I only hope that if I draw a tag and run into one of you tire slashers-in your face-piece of my mind hot heads that you keep in mind that someday you might desire the opportunity to hunt Dall sheep or moose or carribou or some other animal that doesn't exist in AZ. It might be that someone in that state might not appreciate you there and ruin what may be a once in a lifetime experience for you.

As it is, I work hard for the money I earn to hunt. I work extra hours at my regular job, I take on extra jobs, whatever it takes to hunt several hunts either here or in Colorado or Arizona. I'm sure that some of you on this board hunt New Mexico and probably other states, so why the anger towards those of us that enjoy your great state? Be angry at the situation and the instigators, not the rest of us that you might actually like if we weren't non residents.

I agree that this situation sucks. I don't have a problem with the cap there and I don't think I should have an even chance at drawing one of the premier tags. However, I don't think I ought to have to watch over my shoulder or guard my camp if I do draw. I get kind of squirrely when I'm paranoid!

Thanks to those of you like Rembrant, I appreciate your collected thoughts and your voice of reason.

kevin, i don't think right now is the right time to call any Az. boy anything other than sir. this is our problem and we can get mad if we want to. right now is a good time to let off some steam. everyone will cool down some, so you need to can it and don't cause anymore heat over here. stay in new mex.

here is some arithmetic to study fellers. best i can tell there are 9391 bull elk tags in Az. that's what the nonresident put in for. they don't come her for trophy cows. there are 21993 total elk tags. if new mex wimped out and gave up 22% of their tags that means that we will give up 4838 elk tags. our bull elk tags just got cut in half. 9391-4838= 4553 bull elk tags for residents. actually less than half. you see why we're mad now kevin? do the math boys. one tag is too many.

Ok... First theng.. Sorry to anyone who got offended with the tire slashing comment I made. But come on. I have lived in Az my whole life and I dont feel right about out of state hunters comming in and stealing my tags and other peoples tags. I feel that az hunters should get first choice cause they live in this state and love it and then...any tags left over should be givin to out of state hunters at a high cost. If someone in California or NM wants to hunt az so bad then they need to just move here. For the past four years i have put in for a bull elk hunt and never drew it. and now my chances are even slimmer so i dont even see the point of putting in anymore. If im out in the woods this year and i see a hunter with a USO outfitters sticker or emblem on there vehicle they better get out of my way. Cause I live here and I will hunt here before you come in and take over.

Should be info soon.

I left the commission meeting after about 1.5 hours of open discussion. I was especially impressed with about 3 or 4 of the hunters who spoke. The points these folks made pretty much were echoed by everyone else.

In reply to a question from the final speaker, the statement was made that the commisioners were going to meet in exec session to discuss the options and return in an hour to let everyone know what the decision is for now.

The tone of that statement told me, that they had already decided what the commission would do in previous discussions, but they were obligated to and hopeful that listening to public input would give them another option not already considered.

The Decision SHOULD only affect the areas NORTH of the COLORADO River.

The wole problem is due to the Feds implenting and enforcement of the Interstate commerce law. That is being used by many malicious suits and in general it wreaks havoc everywhere it is applied.

About 150 or so in attendance. 12 news crew showed up late so may be a story there tonight.

One more thing, there were hunters there who had dealings with this Taulman bonehead, and one guy who even called him on the phone yesterday after the ruling came out. He said in just a few minutes of talking to him that it was obvious he was not a concerned hunter but someone who only cares about how he can profit from the system. Taulman is a stinking low life scum sucking buzard brained puke from what everyone said and that is something no one disputed. His outfit is pretty much doing as he does so they all are guilty of poor character.

Hunters who come here from other states can do so safely as far as I am concerned, but I can assure you that no one present today would have or will lift a finger to help this USO group if someone stops to string them up in their camp beside the elk or deer they just hung.

Just read the news, and I don't think this is good for anybody. I'm an out of state hunter, and I think that things like this allow us to continue down the slippery slope that will result in hunting becoming a rich mans pastime more so than it already is. I hate getting a rejection for every non-resident tag I apply for, but that is also part of the hunt for me. The question of whether I'm going to be successful in the draw, is almost as exciting as the question of will I harvest an animal, and if I do, how big. I hope the Az G & F can get this reversed, but I also hope it doesn't interupt this years hunts in any way.

I hope they make a decision soon, it's killing me waiting to see if I drew any tags.
