Coues assassin Report post Posted March 3, 2014 I understand hunting over bait is now illegal got that part down. Am I allowed to bait for purpose of finding out and taking photos of what animals are In the area? Also is digging a depression to collect either the bait put down and or water legal? Thanks
Norteno Report post Posted March 3, 2014 The reason you can't bait is because it is a source to spread disease. Whether you are taking game of not you are putting something foreign where a lot of critters will be putting their noses. It does clearly state that water and salt are allowed though. That is the way I see the law. I don't think baiting was banned because it was bad sport.
AZLance Report post Posted March 3, 2014 You are still allowed to Bait for feral hogs because they are not a big game species... if other species happen to walk in to your feral hog bait stand... oh well.

You had better be able to prove there is hogs in the area!
PRDATR Report post Posted March 3, 2014 Why not just make it easy on yourself and remove all doubt by calling G&F?
bojangles Report post Posted March 3, 2014 but officer, didn't you see that thread on CWT....it said it was ok!!!
Flatlander Report post Posted March 3, 2014 />Why not just make it easy on yourself and remove all doubt by calling G&F? There is no assurance that calling them will clarify anything. And you better write down who you spoke to and when otherwise there is no way that defense would stand up. How about just reading the regs? Bet you it's in there. Coues assassin Report post Posted March 3, 2014 I'm not going to bait the whole reason I brought this up was because I keep seeing people post trail cam pics that are obviously baiting. Yes I could read the game and fish regs and find out I'm sure,I was just hoping for maybe a quick answer here.
kazpilot25 Report post Posted March 3, 2014 You can still use salt, just not foods such as corn or any deer attractant like deer cane etc.
AAA Report post Posted March 3, 2014 G&F has NOT been able to ever give me a straight answer. They always brush the issue aside when discussing Salt&Mineral Combination blocks, Trophy Rocks, etc....
AZLance Report post Posted March 3, 2014 Brian Wakling, Game and Fish BigGame Specialist, posted on on this site several months ago that baiting for Feral Hogs was still legal. And it would be Game and Fish responsibility to prove there is no Feral Hogs in the area.?

I don't like baiting never have done it and never will. That being said legally from what I read you are right http://azgfd.net/artman/publish/NewsMedia/Amended-Article-3-rules-affecting-hunters-take-effect-July-1.shtml Although it is wierd that they didnt make it illegal to bait feral hogs when it says ". Common examples of disease problems associated with baiting to both target and non-target wildlife include histomoniasis and avian pox in wild turkey, bobwhite quail and other birds; bovine tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease in wild and enclosed ungulates such as deer and elk; pseudorabies and swine brucellosis in FERAL HOGS; and rabies and distemper in raccoons, fox, and coyotes. There are numerous other diseases and parasites that can be readily transmitted at baiting sites through direct or indirect contact between animals and the bait or feed." Coues assassin Report post Posted March 3, 2014 You would think that since there objective is to prevent the spread of disease they would make baiting illegal to ALL animals.
AZLance Report post Posted March 3, 2014 It was NEVER about the spread of disease...
