elkhunter Report post Posted February 28, 2014 Well scouting pays off again! I brought the same coworker with me as last year since I felt like he was good luck. This year he decided to brin his 11 year old son along to see what huntin is like. Last year it took a few minutes I locate the pigs. This year it took less than 20 seconds haha! We were on the move ASAP! I set them up on a hill about 350 yards away from the herd while I moved in closer by myself. At 300 yards they were already looking at me. It was an extremely quiet morning without any wind! I had to work hard to get to 170 yards and got to 170 yards and set up my brand new 270 wsm rifle up. I waited about 8 minutes to get a clear shot. At the 8 minute mark the pigs were slowing down with feeding and began to listen and stare at certain directions and I got worried and went ahead and shot the smallest pig. The smallest one still ended up being a decent hog! Wondered how big the other ones were! Shot was perfect and the pig stood up on 2 legs for a few seconds which was crazy for me to see. After the shot some pigs ran down towards me about 20-30 yards and began feeding again. After they moved off everyone showed up. My pops said there were hunters about 150 yards from the pigs on the other side of the hill, clearly that's what was disturbing the herd. Anyways got huntin exposed to a new person again, he was unsure of how to feel but after a few minutes he got involved with gutting and asked to cut out and keep the pigs heart.
