2014 Unit 27 Javelina.

Recommended Posts

I killed my first biggame animal on Saturday the 22nd in Unit 27.

I have hunted the northern half of 27 for Bear a lot and always seen pigs up there, but we went down to the southern part of the unit to hunt. Set up camp and started glassing close to camp, no pigs but my boyfriend Cody (huntermncb on here) glassed up a Coyote, started calling him but he could see the truck at camp shining so he didn't come all the way down, he moved down like 100 yards and then disappeared. We met John and his boys and visited with them and they invited us to go with them in the morning. The next morning we slept in and went on a little ridge to glass, we glassed up John and the boys as they were about to shoot a pig. We watched the rest of the herd leave and noticed one was not runnin too good.

They shot and when they were done we made our way over to them, they had a pig over there and we started to make our way to the drainage where we saw the rest of the herd run off to.

About 2 yards from Cody a pig was bedded down and jumped up and ran off. She ran about 60 yards and then bedded down again. He was carrying the 338 Lapua and before we left we agreed that if we jump up pigs he would shoot since I can't off hand that rifle (it weighs about 20 pounds and is pretty long). Well when she bedded down again he threw his Outdoorsman's Pack down and set the rifle on it and I shot her. Clean shot shoulder to shoulder.

She was shot in the butt a few days before our hunt started and was not in the best of shape, that's why she was so far behind the herd and why she was bedded down and only moved about 60 yards and then bedded again.

I'm really glad that I got this pig she was suffering pretty good and I hate to see animals suffering. Her skin and hair on her ears fell right off when you touched them so she was gettin pretty sick.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my first filled tag. I've had 2 Coues Deer Tags, countless Bear and Lion tags, and a junior turkey tag that I haven't filled, so this one felt really good to put this tag on this pretty girl. :)

Yeah that's how I felt too. I don't want to see any animal suffer. And I used to hate Javelina, after this hunt I actually think they are one of the coolest animals ever lol. She didn't stink real bad and she was really soft. She has one tooth that is like hooked, it looks awesome. Cody is gonna pressure wash the skull for me and get it cleaned up and whitened and pretty :) I am excited. Fun hunt, found lost of cool rocks for my daughter's rock collection, found a lucky horse shoe in a dry creek bed, and had a blast with Cody.

Haha I will for sure. I wish Cody would have gotten one but the look on his face when I killed mine and how excited he was I know he was really happy for me. It was fun for sure. You guys will have to come bear hunting with us this year, Cody is gonna make up for last year and kill one here and one in New Mexico with us

Congrats on your success! Good that you were able to get that wounded one down. I'd have done the same thing, hate seeing anything suffer.

Congrats on your first! That is a nice pig and it sure is good to be able to put it out of its misery. Great job shooting that shoulder cannon!

So nice to have met you and Cody, and share good times in some beautiful country. We were excited for your first javelina, and glad we could be there. That rifle is really something else. Maybe you can post some of the photos Cody texted me along with specs. Again congrats, and maybe we'll run into you again next year.

Congrats! Did you say .338 Lapua? That is a serious gun for piggies.

Yeah it means business whatever it's aimed at. We shot rocks out by our 20 acres that was a little over 900 yards and it shot pretty good for the wind we were having that day.

Congratulations. Great to see the ladies putting the smack down on the pigs this season!

Thanks, it was a lot of fun!!

Yeah I will post some of those, I will have to have him post the specs, all I know is it's a Savage, it's big, loud, and is one bad mamma jamma lol. We were coming home from camp and AC/DC's Thunderstuck came on the radio, we blasted it and I told Cody that that song was written when I shot my pig lol.
