Youth bow help!

Recommended Posts

I've been out of the loop when it comes to archery as my bow is a Matthews Q2. My son is saving money for his first real bow and I had a question or two. We have our eye on the diamond infinite edge but cabelas has the bear apprentice two on sale for $229. Does anyone have any experience with this bow? It seems to have similar specs 15"-27" draw length and 15-60 draw weight. Any info would be great. If anyone has something comparable that they are looking to sale we would be interested!

Thanks for your help.

Tdub.

My son shoots the bear, and my wife shoots the diamond, both really good bows! I have to say same pounds and the bear is faster!

The bear online at Cabelas is Left Hand only, unless they have the RH at the store. Bass will match that price if you need a RH bow.

Oh crud! I didn't even look at that. I'm heading down to bass pro to see if they have them. I'll have to call cabelas to see if they have them in the store. If not the descision might be made for us.

They are the same price online. If anyone has anymore info or experience with this bear apprentice bow, I would appreciate it.

The Bear is not even close to being in the same league as the Diamond. The Diamond is the way to go in my opinion.

X2 on this statement. The Diamond was too heavy for my daughter so I went with a Hoyt Ruckus, but I have no doubt that when my son outgrows his Nuclear Ice, he will stepping up to that Infinite Edge (or whatever model replaces it).

My son started with the Nuclear ice and now has the Infinite Edge. This is the way I would go. The best way to decide is to find one of the stores that has both bows and have them set them up for him and let him shoot and decide.

My oldest son 9yrs old shoots the Hoyt Ruckus and he loves it. I just bought my youngest son 8 years old the same bow today and it was $100 cheaper than last years model. Mathews makes a great bow but I have to say for the short draw length Hoyt is the way to go. Price $240 plus tax. Archery Head Quarters.

The great news for you is, there are tons of great bows for youth shooters these days. I got the Diamond razor edge for my boys because at the time, it had the most adjustability, from draw length to weight. They could shoot that bow from age 8 to almost 18.

Many bow companies now have bows that are extremely adjustable, because of (IMO) the success of the razor edge.

We had it narrowed down to the diamond edge and bear aprentice 2. We went and let him handle both. The bear seemed to be lighter and a better fit length wise. We picked one up with arrows and a stabilizer for $229. I was impressed with the way this bow shoots and the ease of adjusting the poundage and draw length. We will eventually switch out the sights and quiver, other than that I would recommend this bow for the smaller framed boy and for someone on a budget. With that being said the aprentice 3 is way over priced and I would look to some other options if this was my option.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone gave. Last night my son grouped 4 arrows in a 3" circle at twenty yards. It's amazing how fast he has picked this up.
