Snowmobiler Shoots Moose

Recommended Posts

If he felt his life was threatened, then he was more than justified. Only thing I'd have done different was had a round in the chamber, and had it more accessible. That amount of time can easily be the difference between life and death. Could this had been avoided? Of course! Could he had fired a warning shot into the ground or thrown a snowball at it? He could have done that. I'm sure it was a great day for ice fishing, and he could have been doing that too. But it is what it is. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Who are we to judge his actions when he felt his life was threatened?

I am curious though, how many have every had their life threatened enough to draw down & shot the threat? Were you justified in drawing? Were you justified in shooting? Could you have done anything different? I would be shocked if someone answered yes to the first question and not to the next three.

Yes, I have been in that situation but the guy shot first and I responded. I have also been close to a bear while hunting Squirrels and he wouldn't move off even after shooting three Squirrels so I moved off and out of his way. This is in no way the same. The guy has the ability to think before he acts. He did not have to advance on the Moose. We all have our "personal space" yes animals have one too. He crossed that boundary and the Moose gave him a bluff charge before the attack. The Moose weighs what about 1400 lbs. I would not get that close even with a gun. That guy is very stupid in my opinion.

It's made it's way to Facebook. Not sure where they came up with the facts about the heart condition and then ask you to send game and fish any information you might have.

Biggest problem I have is that he bolted out of there while the animal still appeared to be alive and suffering. I am arm chair quarterbacking this a bit, but I don't think the moose was still a threat at the point he took off. He should have made sure it wasn't suffering.
