Hatchet Jack Viking Report post Posted December 8, 2006 My father and I were drawn for the Dec. 15-31, 2006, Unit 29 rifle Coues hunt after putting in with no prior knowledge of the area, just word that this was an excellent hunt. The plan is to go after Christmas and hunt till the end of the season so I was wondering if anybody has any knowledge of this area and could help us as to what areas of the unit we should focus on, access roads, methods of hunting, etc. I'm 18 and in excellent shape and my father is in great shape as well so lots of walking/hiking will not be an issue. We both have limited experience hunting Coues from Unit 36B and have been unsuccessful in the past seasons. Please help us harvest our first deer from our home state. peloncillo Report post Posted December 8, 2006 Coues are all over that unit. Some areas to try on the west side are Pinery canyon, Turkey creek, or rucker canyon. On the east there is Horseshoe canyon and price canyon. Good luck to you and your dad. Keven
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted December 8, 2006 It's always a good idea to check out what the game wardens post on the AGFD website about their units. here is the link to the post about Unit 29. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units_29.shtml You can also try and call the warden and ask for info. I hunted unit 29 years ago and found it to be very crowded camping and hunting, especially on the west side, so we moved over the east side, I think horseshoe canyon area and had a great time.
