Mr Cabela died yesterday.

I remember as a kid saving a long time to order a brand new Ambassador level wind baitcasting reel, an Ugly Stik rod and spool of Berkeley Stren line from Cabelas. I Was so very excited to put my order in the mail. I think I knew those catalogs from front to back.

Pretty impressive considering he started with like a 25 word ad in the back of Field and Stream selling hand tied flies. Surely the American dream at its finest.

You remind me of my brother. That is all he fishes with although I did buy him a Garcia Record Reel last year.

Let's not forget, Dick Cabela didn't build his company. Obama and the government did.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was visiting my grandparent’s house. They didn’t have enough seats in the small living room for everyone, so I’d always sit on the floor thumbing through Cabela’s catalogs while the adults talked. The whole catalog ended up dog eared as I marked the pages of all the things I wanted. I think he left a pretty impressive legacy with the company he built and the money he has raised for NRA. RIP.
