rugerman Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Hey aka, You bought a quad off of me last year. I'm looking for a 700 long action donor rifle to build an ultralight 25-06. If you want to dump that rifle and start fresh pm me.
lookinfor110 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Did some work on my 700 and now have a much better rifle. Not quite minute of angle but close. Most of what was done has already been mentioned. Reload or high end factory ammo. Timney adjustable trigger, better than good optics with turrets. Add a bipod and definitely lap the scope rings. For emphasis, lap the scope rings. ultramag Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Trigger.. Good stock.. Have it bedded.. Get a good scope and have better rings and bases. Reload your own ammo.. It's better and more constant than you can buy..learn to shoot.. Chances are your rifle can shoot better than you can. Just saying. Learn how to clean your rifle.. That alone is a hobby all by itself, one step at a time. It takes years and then your never satisfied..
PRDATR Report post Posted February 16, 2014 A Timney is going to help you for shooting longer distances. After that, good quality rings and lapping is never a bad thing. A quality scope will give you the clarity and repeatability you need. Do these things and then address the stock if need be as money allows. A quality stock that has a pillar bedding should be all that is needed. The only custom stock I ever purchased was one of the original H&S Precision stocks I used when I actively shot High Power Silhouette. I didn't have a torque wrench so I used a T Handle Allen Wrench to "snug" it up and would routinely take the action in and out of the stock with no change in zero out to 500 Meters. Which is a long ways out there.
MathewQuigly Report post Posted February 17, 2014 I'd bed the stock I had unless there's something really wrong with it, then use the money for the stock on some good glass.
Guest akaspecials Report post Posted February 19, 2014 Hey aka, You bought a quad off of me last year. I'm looking for a 700 long action donor rifle to build an ultralight 25-06. If you want to dump that rifle and start fresh pm me. Thanks for the offer. This one has some sentimental value though. BTW, that quad is still running great. It's gotten me through heck and back in unit 23. Has a few more scratches and a cracked foot rest now though!
Guest akaspecials Report post Posted February 19, 2014 Thanks for all the suggestions guys. The Timney was dropped in today and WOW it's an improvement over the stock trigger! Tonight I'll be be putting a Vortex Viper on it. I'll try to post my groups once I get the thing sighted in.

gaps Report post Posted February 19, 2014 You may want to check eBay. I bought my H S Precidion sendero takeoff stock on eBay for $280. It was brand new with bottom metal and factory tags on it

Look up a parts diagram and order one to the closest shop. I think it ran me forty bucks and 10 minutes to replace it.

No stores in town had the scope I wanted (Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50 mrad) . I ended up ordering it online from cameralandny. Any suggestions on rings? Siwash Report post Posted February 23, 2014 Good luck with the project. With the Timney and a good optic/mount you are almost there. That's all I have on my 700 ADL plus some elbow grease with 220 grit sand paper, a $5 rattle can of paint and a bedding kit from Brownell's. Another CWT member was kind enough to help me bed this one and I gave it a few coats of Krylon brown after I floated the barrel. I never take this rifle to the range without at least one person asking where I got the stock. The rifle (.243) is a sub-moa shooter with handloads.
