the 1850 is my 4th kuiu pack - what do you want to know? I like external frame packs when I'm backpacking in and want the capability of hauling a comfy "full load" out. What sold me on the 1850 was the ability to add such a large load in between the pack and the frame when needed. Also, In about 5 mins or less you can dissasemble the carbon frame and make it an internal frame pack. Basically, 2 packs in 1. Cool design - very functional. Adjustable yokes make a world of difference.

Wish the shoulder straps were a little more narrow, but that's about the only thing I would change on this pack. Hope this helps,

I have the 3000 and 7200. Love them both over my Badlands, Eberlestock packs. like the new suspension and the technology that was taken from the mountaineering guys. The articulating hip belt and functional load lifters really do make a huge difference. If you have another questions let me now.

one suggestion… if you want the 1850 buy a 3000 or 5200… for a few more ounces its worth it if you ever need it. This is where I will say it is better to have and not need then need and not have…. really your talking a few OZ for a lot more options.

I have the 1850 and love it so far. I still can't get over how light it is. I keep thinking I forgot my pack frame, then I remember that it's carbon fiber... I haven't packed out a deer yet, but I've loaded it up with 60 lbs and it was as comfortable as if it was empty.

Yes, yes you do! And I like how it's all set up. I have a lot of crap that I bring with me, knives, flashlights, rope, headlamps, ect., and the pockets ate up my gear with room to spare. No more fighting with the water bladder or my sammitch container, everything I need (and alot of what i think I need...) fits.

Have any of you packed out an animal with the Icons? I've pretty much boiled it down to the Icons and Kifaru. I've been a Kifaru user for decades and really have no reason to stray off that path but the Icons weight and organization has me very tempted. The Kifarus are fantastic at load carrying and although it might be a little optimistic to base pack choice primarily on load carriage, it is something I'd rather think about now rather than at the moment of truth. I'm looking specifically at the Icon 5200 which shows a sling load capacity of I think, 1800cu.in.

I have owned a Kuiu 3000 Icon for the past 1.5 years or so, during that time I've carried out two pronghorn and a javelina, logged hundreds of miles and hours in the sticks. It works well for what I want it to do. I can carry a rifle, a bow, and a tripod on my pack at the same time and fit all the components for a hunt that I need. I wouldn't trust it to pack out an elk as there is so much flex in the carbon fiber outers I'd worry it would be an sorry end to my pack.

I got to check out their 1850 day pack at the SCI show in Vegas this past week and have to admit that although a slick pack, I'll stick with a 3000 as there is minimal weight difference and more options for gear storage. To each their own tho.

I know hunters and outfitters that use their packs, a few have had bad experiences with the carbon fiber blowing out on them and that was mostly due to heavy loads. Initially I wasn't so sure about my purchase due to the design and frame but I really like the pack now. I also have a 6000 icon pack I haven't even put on my icon frame yet cuz I like the 3000 so much.

Let us know what you decide.
