Also, the compay that bought them has been a maker/disributor of their own brand of spirits in Japan fo many years. My guess is that it is much less about 'outsourcing', and much more about simply making a multi billion $$ investment in a good/strong brand. As for making it in China, uh... I used to bring back single malt that was 15-20 yr and it was a steal at the duty free in most of Asia. The Japanese have some great whiskey's they have been making for a very long time but they are really expensive. Would prefer it stay American owned but Japan is probably the best alternative as they are crazy about the best processes and quality, and they dont care for China much.
