joelpresmyk8 Report post Posted January 31, 2014 Let me start off by saying I know when the elk and deer are "supposed" to drop, but I thought it would be a neat little game to see what you guys think personally. Take all factors into consideration (rut, temperature, elevation etc.) Basically a guessing game voiced out through this thread. Maybe give a general area where your from and a guess as to when you think the first elk shed will drop and when the first coues/ mule deer shed will drop. I'll start, IMO I live in camp verde Elk- I say first hits the ground where I go on march3 Coues- April 23rd Mule deer- April 1 st Like I said, just my guesses
WhipRanger Report post Posted February 8, 2014 I think every element you listed affects when they are lost. Which really sucks when your trying to plan a shed hunting trip. Friends of mine in Wis. start picking them up in Dec. and Ive already heard of a few in Co. loosing them, but here in Ne. they are still glued on quite well and generally carry for another month. As for temp I believe that the colder harder weather makes them drop sooner. A few years back before the die off in Co. in another cold and reasonably hard winter I found most of my sheds in late Jan, when on normal years early March was the best. As for your dates in a normal year I'd say your right on.
